I read Markdown all day, mostly Claude .md, and other AI outputs. Every app I have tried felt janky or too much work to just read an md file. I just wanted to open a .md file and read it the way Preview opens a PDF. So I built Kite, a Markdown reader for Mac. What it does
Open any .md file and see it formatted instantly. No preview pane. No mode switching. No Obsidian vault required. Free 7-day trial, then $14.99 one-time.
Your AI generates plans, specs, and docs as .md files. Spacebar in Finder should show them formatted. Now it does. Claude Code just wrote you a 200-line implementation plan. You switch to Finder, select the file, hit spacebar. And Quick Look shows you a wall of hashtags, asterisks, and backticks. The content is there. You just can’t read it. Install Kite once and every Markdown file on your Mac gets a formatted preview in Quick Look. Select a file, press space, read it. Nothing else to open. I'm not the author of the app (nor i have any connection with them, just a random user). iA Writer and Writer Pro aren't well suited for me as a developer. They feel quite "strange" to me. Mou is a good option (free too) but still missing some features. So far this, this editor is the most complete user-friendly. Hope it helps!
