What it does

Native macOS app for opening, searching, and exporting emails from MBOX and EML archive files. Handles Gmail Takeout exports of any size. Back up your Gmail with Google Takeout and read it offline on your Mac.

How to open an MBOX file on Mac or Windows: install Mbox Viewer, drop the file in, read it. Thunderbird, Gmail Takeout and Apple Mail, 50+ GB, offline.

Back up your Gmail with Google Takeout and read it offline. Open, search and export emails from MBOX and EML archives — from a few KB to 50+ GB — without your computer breaking a sweat. Recorded on macOS with a sample mailbox. Mbox Viewer is also available for Windows, where the interface differs slightly. No import, no conversion, no account. Your file is opened exactly as it is, and left exactly as it was. Free from the Mac App Store or the Microsoft Store. Mailboxes up to 1 GB open without buying anything. Drag it onto the window or double-click it. A Gmail export from Google Takeout, a Thunderbird mailbox and an Apple Mail .mbox folder all open as they are — no conversion step. Mboxreader – easily view your Gmail TakeoutsJul 2026 · mboxreader.com · ▲7

Hey HN, Did you know you can download all your emails (and attachments) from GMail into a .mbox format using Google Takeout (https://takeout.google.com)? I did this and for the longest time my .mbox backup just sat around. I built a web app that can take an .mbox file and load it into a UI that looks like GMail: threaded conversations, original labels and categories, contacts, attachments, and full-text search. The mail never leaves your machine: the upload and parsing happens in a Web Worker in your own browser, and the archive is stored in browser storage on your device. Close…

  I spent 3 years reverse-engineering a 40 yo stock market sim from 1986▲721

Hello my name is Ben Ward for the past 3 years I have been remastering the financial game Wall Street Raider created by Michael Jenkins originally on DOS in 1986. It has been a rough journey but I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I just recently redid the website and thought maybe the full story of how this project came to be would interest you all. Thank you for reading.
