In plain words
MRuby-Zest is a scriptable audio GUI framework designed to address the unique challenges of building user interfaces for audio applications. It was developed to solve common problems in open source audio tool design, including creating distinctive visual identities, implementing intuitive parameter controls, and visualizing audio data effectively. The framework is built to work reliably when embedded in plugin hosts, making it suitable for developers creating professional audio software.

From the sources
Audio tools face a set of uncommon user interface design and implementation challenges. These constraints make high quality interfaces within the open source realm particular difficult to execute on volunteer time. The challenges include producing a unique identity for the application, providing easy to use controls for the parameters of the application, and providing interesting ways to visualize the data within the application. Additionally, existing toolkits produce technical issues when embedding within plugin hosts. MRuby-Zest is a new toolkit that was build while the ZynAddSubFX user interface was rewritten. This toolkit possesses unique characteristics within open source toolkits…from log.fundamental-code.com

Audiocube – A 3D DAW for Spatial Audio2025 · audiocube.app · ▲253I’ve recently released my solo project Audiocube I wanted to make a 3D DAW, where spatial audio, physics, and virtual acoustics are all directly integrated into the engine. This makes it easy to create music in 3D, and experiment with new techniques which aren’t possible in traditional DAWs and plugins. I’d love to get any feedback on this software (Mac/Windows) to make it better. You can download it for free through the website. Thanks, Noah
Cloning a musical instrument from 16 seconds of audio2022 · erlj.notion.site · ▲185In 2020, Magenta released DDSP [1], a machine learning algorithm / python library which made it possible to generate good sounding instrument synthesizers from about 6-10 minutes of data. While working with DDSP for a project, we realised how it was actually quite hard to find 6-10 minute of clean recordings of monophonic instruments. In this project, we have combined the DDSP architecture with a domain adaptation technique from speech synthesis [2]. This domain adaptation technique works by pre-training our model on many different recordings from the Solos dataset [3] first and then…

Talanoa▲346Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
