My 1-week project, OpenCombinator.com

Anyone can be a mentor or investor in some walk of life. Anyone can be a founder, creator or student in another. Anyone can mod their own, or someone else's news list. A tool without restrictions, operating on a finite set of rules. You decide whether it evolves to be used for good or evil.

My 1-week project, OpenCombinator.com launched on April 30, 2011 with 24 votes, #40 of 229 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches.

In plain words

OpenCombinator is a platform where users can operate simultaneously in multiple roles—as mentors and investors in some domains while being founders, creators, or students in others. The tool allows anyone to create and customize their own news lists or modify others' lists based on a set of finite rules. Designed for flexible collaboration and knowledge-sharing across different professional and creative pursuits, it operates with minimal restrictions, giving users control over how the platform evolves.

LinkedIn feels more like Facebook every day — noisy feeds, fake engagement, and everyone shouting into the void. Thats why I used to built a personal microsite on Squarespace and uploaded a video resume to YouTube to stand out - it helped me land interviews and get into Big Tech. But I always wondered: why isn’t there a platform designed to help you stand out like that? So I built OpenSpot: a public, curated platform where you can showcase who you are — with video, audio, and proof of your work. No endless feeds. No humblebrags. Just real people open to new opportunities. We’ve already…

hi all, I've always wanted to make my own game, but couldn't afford a thousand-dollar adobe (flash+photoshop) license. I'm not a talented programmer, have no degree in CS. But I understand some elements of design. So I got me a copy of ImpactJS, and after about 5 months of steep learning curve (at least for me), I managed to come up with a game. I also integrated it with a highscore and badge system, similar to what you get at Kongregate. You need to login with Google/OpenID to earn badges/scores. link is: http://www.hotbazooka.com/privatejoe hope to hear some feedback/questions from you guys!

I remember seeing the Dragon Labs Dragonfish Glowing Form Demo[1] when it first came out, and it always stuck in my head. They implement the effect by using a rather large background image and a mask image and move the background image around via Javascript. I was inspired and wanted to see how close I could get with CSS3. I recommend using a Webkit browser [and you can see an alternate version of the animation on Firefox 4].
