My Weekend Project - Am I Crazy?

I created https://foundermeals.com as a weekend project, and as part of an internal competition we do at http://www.freshform.com I love the concept, and I'll be ecstatic if the project is funded and can move forward. But I'm curious if I'm focusing too much on my own insane hunt to find the simplest way to cook, or if that appeals to others. Most people I've told about this respond with, "You're kinda analytical, huh?" or "You think people would pay for that?" or even "...." The thing is, I'm not trying to sell recipes, I'm trying to sell convenience, and I'm not sure I've communicated that…

What it does

In the maker’s words, at launch

I created https://foundermeals.com as a weekend project, and as part of an internal competition we do at http://www.freshform.com I love the concept, and I'll be ecstatic if the project is funded and can move forward. But I'm curious if I'm focusing too much on my own insane hunt to find the simplest way to cook, or if that appeals to others. Most people I've told about this respond with, "You're kinda analytical, huh?" or "You think people would pay for that?" or even "...." The thing is, I'm not trying to sell recipes, I'm trying to sell convenience, and I'm not sure I've communicated that fully on the sales page. What do you think? 1. Can you tell what FounderMeals is? 2. Would you buy the product? (I consider all of HN to be part of the market) (I just pushed this live this morning, you can view my launch metrics here: https://www.foundermeals.com/metrics - something new I'm trying)

    My never ending weekend project - recikeep.com2012 · ▲10

I'm nearing the finish line on a side-project that has taken me longer than I care to admit. I'd really like to get some feedback from you guys if you would: http://recikeep.com The site is centered around a bookmarklet with some extra server-side processing. You "recikeep" a recipe and the ingredients are all parsed out into Qty/Measure/Ingredient/Prep (as best as I can), and then you build menus from what you have kept. Since the ingredients are parsed out, I can generate a shopping list from your menu that's a combination of all of the ingredients across the recipes. Any feedback would be…

    7courses, the recipe manager.2011 · ▲23

I am happy to announce the updated release of my web app, 7courses. http://7courses.com/ 7courses makes it ridiculously easy to jot down and manage your collection of recipes. As someone who cooks, I often find recipes online or in cookbooks, but have no way to organize them. I have been looking for a digital "recipe box". After plenty of searching I just made my own. 7courses was built around the idea that you should be able to choose how you want to organize your recipes, and doing so should be easy and quick. The UI is responsive and intuitive, with a no frills design. Just jump right in…

    I'm a non-hacker "idea guy" and my weekend project took 1,670 + days2012 · ▲21

I am a non-hacker "idea guy" with zero discernible talent. Like most, the story starts with me doing things the hard way. I dreamt of a tool that would save me countless hours. Like most of my ideas, it was supposed to die in a couple of hours, but this one had some legs.... "If I needed this, surely others did too" kept looping in my head. Could I get this built? Could I build it myself? Nah...too lazy to learn how, but before I did anything, I had to promise myself one thing: No more ideas! If ideas were sit-ups, I would have a six pack instead of this tire. It was a constant mental…

Check out my (sort of) weekend project...2011 · ▲8

Check out my (sort-of) weekend project . . . And by weekend project, I mean something that I thought sounded like a small idea that I could throw together over one or two weekends, but ended up taking over six months. This is a bit of a long submission, but after lurking on HN for the last few years, I thought this might be a chance to contribute something back. I’m just going to briefly discuss why my “weekend project” took so long, and how I got where I am. The url is http://dudmail.com - it's a disposable email site. Similar in intention/scope to the many existing ones out there, but…

    I built a mockup/prototype/wireframe editor in ten weeks2012 · ▲42

Hi HN, After watching a lot of Show HN's here, it's finally my turn to show something. This is the first real project I have shipped, so it is extra special to me. For those who will inevitably ask why I made yet another mockup editor I covered it on our blog (http://blog.mocktailsapp.in/why-build-yet-another-mockup-editor-tm). Not all the features mentioned in that post have been implemented yet. As such Mocktails is pre-beta software and very minimal. It does not even have user accounts or any actual server side component at all for that matter (yet)! Our intention is to build Mocktails…
