NICH: GPT Anonymizer
I built NICH after realising I couldn't use ChatGPT for my conflict research work without risking data leaks. It's a browser extension that: - Anonymises names, emails, and addresses in one click - Preserves context for AI to understand - Restores original data in AI responses - 100% browser-based (no cloud, data never leaves your device) Built it for researchers, lawyers, HR professionals or simply anyone handling confidential data who wants AI assistance without compliance nightmares. Free to use: https://www.nichtech.uk Would love feedback from the HN community!
NICH: GPT Anonymizer launched on March 11, 2025 with 14 votes, #1,530 of 7,215 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 1 year on.
What it does
NICH protects your privacy by anonymizing sensitive data before AI interactions and allows seamless deanonymization when needed. Built for researchers, businesses, and privacy-conscious users. Process text locally - no cloud, no tracking, full control.
Free Chrome extension that swaps names, emails, phone numbers and other personal details for placeholders before you send a message to ChatGPT, Claude or any AI assistant. Everything runs in your browser.
NICH swaps names, emails, phone numbers and other personal details for placeholders before you send a message to an AI. One right-click puts the real details back into the answer. Nothing ever leaves your browser. When you click into a text box, a small black button with a crossed-out eye appears in its corner. Click it and every personal detail in the box becomes a placeholder such as [NAME 1] or [EMAIL 1] . The AI only sees the placeholders, but the meaning of your text stays intact, so the answer is just as useful. Each detail keeps the same placeholder throughout the message. Select the answer, right-click and choose Copy Deanonymized . Paste it into your email, document or chat and…from nichtech.uk

Local Privacy Firewall-blocks PII and secrets before ChatGPT sees themDec 2025 · github.com · ▲111OP here. I built this because I recently caught myself almost pasting a block of logs containing AWS keys into Claude. The Problem: I need the reasoning capabilities of cloud models (GPT/Claude/Gemini), but I can't trust myself not to accidentally leak PII or secrets. The Solution: A Chrome extension that acts as a local middleware. It intercepts the prompt and runs a local BERT model (via a Python FastAPI backend) to scrub names, emails, and keys before the request leaves the browser. A few notes up front (to set expectations clearly): Everything runs 100% locally. Regex detection…

Hi HN, I’m one of the maintainers of Bridge Anonymization. We built this because the existing solutions for translating sensitive user content are insufficient for many of our privacy-concious clients (Governments, Banks, Healthcare, etc.). We couldn't send PII to third-party APIs, but standard redaction destroyed the translation quality. If you scrub "John" to "[PERSON]", the translation engine loses gender context (often defaulting to masculine), which breaks grammatical agreement in languages like French or German. So we built a reversible, local-first pipeline for Node.js/Bun. Here…
