Nomad – Self-hosted collaborative travel planner

I built this because I never really liked the existing travel planners. Most of them are closed or just don’t work that well when you’re planning a trip together with other people. So I started building my own tool, mainly for myself at first. It’s a self-hosted travel planner where you can organize trips collaboratively in real time. You can drag and drop places into days, keep track of budgets, manage bookings, and create packing lists. The real-time collaboration part was probably the trickiest thing to get right. Keeping everything in sync without it becoming overly complicated took a…

    Itineraries.io – I built a joint trip planner in between surgeries2024 · itineraries.io · ▲96

Hey HN, For the last several weeks, I have just been sleeping, eating, operating and developing itineraries.io. Rinse and repeat. I work as a surgeon in the UK. My main other passions are travel and programming. Recently, when I haven't been stitching someone up, I've been working on my project. Having always dreamed of exploring the world as a child, I struck a goldmine when I found a wife who shared the same love of adventure as me. We couldn't afford to travel much when we first met at university. Over the last couple of years, since both entering the workforce, we have been able to live…

Hi HN, I built Plan Harmony because trip planning—especially with friends or family—kept turning into a mess. We’d juggle group chats, scattered Google Docs, random links, and always miss something. I wanted a tool to help structure an itinerary, suggest smarter options, and keep everyone on the same page—without feeling like work. The idea: most travel tools either hit you with generic “Top 10 things in Rome” lists or dump everything into a calendar/map with no real structure. I wanted something in between—something that helps you actually plan a coherent trip across days, cities,…

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
