Notum - Smart active recall

Master any subject with flashcards and daily streaks.

What it does

Hey PH! 👋 I’m a 23 year old CS student who built Notum because I was totally fed up with Quizlet’s lack of LaTeX support. I spent more time hacking together math equations than actually studying. So, I built the tool I needed: a smart flashcard app centered on active recall. Notum features flawless LaTeX support, 4 study modes, and daily streaks to keep you accountable. It completely fixed my exam prep (Data Mining). I’d love for you to try it out and let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Master any subject with Notum Learn. Free spaced repetition flashcard software featuring adaptive memory algorithms, LaTeX math rendering, code highlighting, and shared community decks.

Built for STEM students, programmers, and lifelong learners. Create cards with LaTeX math formulas, syntax-highlighted code blocks, and track long-term retention. Partitioning work is O(n) at each recursion level, yielding logarithmic O(log n) tree depth on average. Built around how memory, pattern recognition, and active recall actually work. Quick self-rating strengthens retrieval practice and brings difficult cards back before they fade, which makes revision far more efficient. Connecting concepts across decks strengthens mental models, helping you synthesize complex ideas and recall facts faster. Tailoring review intervals to your study schedule keeps retention high without forcing…from notumlearn.com

    Anki/Duolingo-like app using educational YouTube videos2024 · platoedu.org · ▲289

Hi HN, I watch A LOT of educational YouTube videos but wasn't forgetting a good chunk of the details because I was only really passively watching. So I made a tool that generates quiz questions/flashcards from YouTube videos, and uses spaced repetition like Anki or Duolingo to keep it in memory. Let me know if you find it cool/useful (or terrible ) or if you want to know a bit about the details!

As a student with a lot of notes I had a problem with studying fast for tests. So I created Notiv an AI study app that analyzes your notes and prepares you for test.

  • Hey we are Computable. We spent years building trading infrastructure at Jump Trading and Coinbase. From that point of view, compute looks like energy markets before 2000: everything trades through private bilateral leases, there’s no visible price, and nothing can be resold. The same H100 rents at a 2x spread depending on who’s asking, and once you sign a 24-month lease, it can never change hands. So we built a market for GPU nodes, sold by the calendar week. Here are three things you can do on it that you can’t do anywhere else: - Buy exactly the weeks you need. Three nodes for the last…

Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!
