An interactive map of Tolkien's Middle-earthApr 2026 · middle-earth-interactive-map.web.app · ▲291An interactive map of Tolkien’s Middle-earth, with events from across the legendarium plotted as markers. I have been commuting a fair bit between the East and West coast, and thanks to American Airlines' free onboard WiFi, I was able to vibe-code a full interactive map of Middle-earth right from my economy seat at the back of the bus. It's rather amazing how much an LLM knows about Tolkien's work, and it was fun to delve into many of the nooks and crannies of Tolkien's lore. Some features: - Plot on the map the journey of the main characters in both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. -…

Super Map World2023 · supermap.world · ▲115Hi HN I’ve been working on Super Map World, a creative mapping platform and just launched a new animation feature. Try it: https://supermap.world/tools/map-animation What it does: The feature lets you animate maps directly in your browser with a few clicks. You can animate routes, regions, or just simply see a globe in your chosen style rotate from point to point. It’s designed for people who want to make short visuals e.g. social clips, or storytelling maps without needing to figure out GIS tools. Under the hood: Everything runs client-side. I'm using d3.js to render the…

Hi HN! I’m proud to share that we have built a real 3rd party iMessage client for Android. We did it by reverse engineering the iMessage protocol and encryption system. It's available to download today (no waitlist): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beeper.ima and there's a technical writeup here: https://blog.beeper.com/p/how-beeper-mini-works. Unlike every other attempt to build an iMessage app for Android (including our first gen app), Beeper Mini does not use a Mac server relay in the cloud. The app connects directly to Apple…

Previously, my solution was to insert a bunch of blank lines between the notes, but hitting C-A would still select the entire buffer. That's why I came up with the concept of "blocks", which turned…
