Open-Source Quantum Solver for Maximum Independent Set Problems

We’ve just released an open-source library for solving the Maximum Independent Set (MIS) problem with neutral atom quantum computing, running on both quantum processing units (QPUs) and classical hardware, thanks to emulators. This project is the result of collaboration between Pasqal, academic researchers, and industry partners, aiming to make it practical to experiment with quantum approaches to hard combinatorial optimization tasks. The MIS problem appears in real-world scenarios like scheduling, resource allocation, and network optimization, areas where classical solvers often struggle…

What it does

In the maker’s words, at launch

We’ve just released an open-source library for solving the Maximum Independent Set (MIS) problem with neutral atom quantum computing, running on both quantum processing units (QPUs) and classical hardware, thanks to emulators. This project is the result of collaboration between Pasqal, academic researchers, and industry partners, aiming to make it practical to experiment with quantum approaches to hard combinatorial optimization tasks. The MIS problem appears in real-world scenarios like scheduling, resource allocation, and network optimization, areas where classical solvers often struggle as complexity grows. Our library is designed to make quantum optimization more accessible: users provide the problem as a graph, and the solver manages the quantum backend. - Documentation and tutorials are available to help you get started. - The codebase is open for feedback, contributions, and discussion. - The approach builds on recent research with LAMSADE (Université Paris-Dauphine, PSL University, CNRS) and LIP (ENS Lyon, CNRS). # Source: https://github.com/pasqal-io/maximum-independent-set/ # Project and docs: https://pasqal-io.github.io/maximum-independent-set/latest/ # Research paper: https://www.alphaxiv.org/abs/2502.04291 Happy to answer questions and discuss technical details!

Today marks ten years, 3653 consecutive days, of running at least one mile every day under the USRSA rules [1]. To celebrate, I built an interactive dashboard that turns a decade of GPX files into charts you can explore. Running has truly changed my life: I've made lifelong friends, explored beautiful places, and more importantly invested into my own health and fitness, which I'm starting to see the positive benefits as I get older. The stack is pretty simple: a NextJS app, with a Postgres database to keep all my running data, and all the stats are pre-computed and cached in Redis, so I…

Made this website as an exercise in vibe-coding and GCP. It was posted about a few times around the internet, on sites like Morning Brew (https://www.morningbrew.com/issues/business-buzzkill), MetaFilter (https://www.metafilter.com/209703/Draw-A-Fish), boingboing.net, etc. I think it's cute! I built a basic CNN trained against penises and swastikas, and then anything that doesn't hit the 63% confidence score gets sent to a mod queue, a vibe-coded fish-tinder…
