Open-sourcing my failed startup Buzee – A file search application

Buzee is a file search application that helps you find your files effortlessly. As a modern-day knowledge worker, I have several thousand documents, presentations and other files on my computer. I built Buzee in my free time to help me weave my way through this maze. I have been using it pretty much everyday since the day I built it - and I love it! I thought I could turn Buzee into a startup. I reached out to offices and helped set it up for them. But it didn't pan out. I am now letting go of this project because I have other priorities in life. Please feel free to do with this project as…

In plain words

Buzee is an open-source file search application designed for knowledge workers managing thousands of documents and presentations on their computers. The creator built it for personal daily use and attempted to commercialize it by setting up installations in offices, but ultimately decided to release it publicly to pursue other priorities. The codebase is available for others to build upon.

    Sourcebot, an open-source Sourcegraph alternative2024 · github.com · ▲259

Hi HN, We’re Brendan and Michael, the creators of Sourcebot (https://github.com/sourcebot-dev/sourcebot). Sourcebot is an open-source code search tool that allows you to quickly search across many large codebases. Check out our demo video here: https://youtu.be/mrIFYSB_1F4, or try it for yourself on our demo site here: https://demo.sourcebot.dev While at prior roles, we’ve both felt the pain of searching across hundreds of multi-million line codebases. Using local tools like grep were ill-suited since you often only had a handful of codebases…

    Bvckup 2 – Fast File Replicator for Windows2019 · bvckup2.com · ▲154

This is a long-running project that started as the proverbial need to scratch my own itch and then somehow evolved into a full-time job of the past 6 years. Link: https://bvckup2.com I thought I'd do a Show HN for two reasons. 1. I obviously want to show my baby to those who haven't seen it. Its primary purpose is to do very fast file replication. If you are familiar with "robocopy /mir" - same idea, but on steroids. Lots of them. It can be used for both mirroring and archiving backups, among other things. It is light, very small and it is really quite fast. Half of the…

Gerbil – an open source desktop app for running LLMs locallyNov 2025 · github.com · ▲37

Gerbil is an open source app that I've been working on for the last couple of months. The development now is largely done and I'm unlikely to add anymore major features. Instead I'm focusing on any bug fixes, small QoL features and dependency upgrades. Under the hood it runs llama.cpp (via koboldcpp) backends and allows easy integration with the popular modern frontends like Open WebUI, SillyTavern, ComfyUI, StableUI (built-in) and KoboldAI Lite (built-in). Why did I create this? I wanted an all-in-one solution for simple text and image-gen local LLMs. I got fed up with needing to manage…

    ChunkHound, a local-first tool for understanding large codebasesJan 2026 · github.com · ▲114

ChunkHound’s goal is simple: local-first codebase intelligence that helps you pull deep, core-dev-level insights on demand, generate always-up-to-date docs, and scale from small repos to enterprise monorepos — while staying free + open source and provider-agnostic (VoyageAI / OpenAI / Qwen3, Anthropic / OpenAI / Gemini / Grok, and more). I’d love your feedback — and if you have, thank you for being part of the journey!
