Overlay Blocker

Make Chrome smarter, able to detect and stop overlay popups

Overlay Blocker launched on September 27, 2016 with 75 votes, #623 of 3,744 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 10 years on.

What it does

Automatically block annoying parts of websites like newsletter signup forms, and page exit ads. Page interruptions that open automatically when you enter a website or leave a website. These aren't blocked by your browser because they're not really a popup. For example, that "subscribe to our newsletter" message you see when you visit a blog. Overlays are a part of the webpage like any other. Some websites use overlays to show good content, so browsers don't block these popups. Combine with uBlock for the ultimate ad and spam protection. Auto-magically. That's how. We detect good overlays and ignore them, while blocking bad overlays. We're always fine-tuning this balance and publish free…from overlayblock.com
