Overwhisper

What it does

Local, private voice transcription that lives in your menu bar. Powered by WhisperKit. This one is SIMPLE. Download your model, use a hotkey to start recording anywhere, and hit finish to paste in the audio transcription at your cursor.

Overwhisper is a free Mac dictation app. Press a shortcut, speak, and your words appear where you were typing. Private by default, with optional cloud transcription.

Stop pecking out every sentence. Press a shortcut, say what you mean, and Overwhisper turns it into text in the app you were already using. Say the messy version while the idea is fresh. Clean it up after it exists. Use it in Messages, Notes, email, your browser, docs, forms, and any text box. Your Mac can handle everyday dictation by default. Online help is optional. Long replies, meeting notes, journal entries, support messages, bug reports, grocery lists, rough drafts. If typing it feels like friction, say it. Talk through paragraphs, plans, and explanations without losing momentum halfway through typing.
