Parse Grotesk Mono

A programming font with a bit of personality.

Parse Grotesk Mono launched on January 15, 2019 with 77 votes, #527 of 2,587 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 7 years on.

What it does

Parse Grotesk Mono is just the monospace font you didn’t know you wanted to spice up your IDE. Originally published as Dita Grotesk Mono, it has evolved into a far more sophisticated and classier version, with its glyphs completely reworked from the ground up. Bored of your current monospace? Parse makes programming fun again.

Originally we (Andrey, Marcus, Juho) built MonoLisa in 2020 as we realised there's room for a better monospaced typeface for developers. The key insight was to make the glyphs slightly wider to make more room for design to make letters like m feel less cramped. Since then we've released a variable v2 (2022) and now we're happy to expand the typeface with a new family called MonoLisa Text. The reasoning was to cover *other* use cases beyond coding with this proportional font. We hope you give Monolisa a go as there's a free trial to try. We also welcome feedback!

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
