Pi Coding Agent

A new Emacs mode for AI-assisted coding (Claude Code style), with native Emacs buffers instead of a flickering terminal. Built on top of pi, a no-bs open source Claude Code alternative. It supports Claude, GPT, Gemini, Ollama. I've been using it daily for weeks. Demo video that says more than $NUMBER words: https://danielnouri.org/media/pi-coding-agent-demo.mp4 The key decision here is that we have two separate windows: chat history is a markdown-mode buffer, with beautiful rendering, unlimted scrollback, selective tool expansion where it matters, etc. The input window…

What it does

Pi is a minimal terminal coding harness. Adapt Pi to your workflows, not the other way around. Customize Pi with extensions, skills, prompt templates, and themes. Bundle them as Pi packages and share via npm or git. Pi ships with powerful defaults but skips features like sub-agents and plan mode. Ask Pi to build what you want, or install a package that does it your way.

A terminal-based coding agent

Here we ask Pi to build a custom workflow extension with custom TUI to streamline the commit and push process. You can rewind to any prior message, branch from there and share the entire session with others. Pi supports skills, AGENTS.md files and is very token efficient due to its minimal system prompt. Press Enter to steer the current run immediately, or Alt+Enter to queue a follow-up once it finishes. We use the Pi TUI here to build a Pi based shell script that uses print mode. This demonstrates a more heavily customized Pi installation using the third-party extension @termdraw/pi by Ben Vinegar that lets you draw. Pi is a minimal agent harness. In the maker’s words, at launch

Like subagents but much simpler, sequential and with more control for the user. Instead of describing the loop to the agent, just make a loop. No need to tell the agent about your control structure if you already know the control structure.

Hey HN, I'm Mo. I've been building Paseo, an open source environment for running Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode across desktop, mobile, web, and CLI. It started last September as a push-to-talk voice interface for Claude Code. I wanted to talk to an agent while going on walks. Then I wanted to see what it was doing. Then text it when I couldn't talk. Then review diffs, run multiple agents, and manage work across machines. After a lot of iteration, it turned into a broader environment. The basic model is: - A daemon runs on your machine (MacBook, desktop, VPS, etc.). - Clients connect to it…

Hey HN, Today we're launching Code, a community-driven, open-source coding agent for your terminal. It's a fork of OpenAI's codex with a focus on developer ergonomics and local control. Key features: - Browser integration – attach to your Chrome via CDP or use a built-in headless browser. You can browse pages, run the CLI in a browser session, and even take screenshots from the terminal. - Multi-agent commands – /plan, /solve and /code orchestrate multiple models (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) to propose and implement solutions, with consensus or race options. - Diff viewer – see…

    Give Claude Code control of your browser (open-source)2025 · cli-agents.click · ▲10

As I started to use Claude Code to do more random tasks I realized I could basically build any CLI tool and it would use it. So I built one that controls the browser and open-sourced it. It should work with Codex or any other CLI-based agent! I have a long term idea where the models are all local and then the tool is privacy preserving because it's easy to remove PII from text, but I'd definitely not recommend using this for anything important just yet. You'll need a Gemini key until I (or someone else) figure out how to distill a local version out of that part of the pipeline. Github link:…

  • Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
