PictShare
Smart & Open Source image, gif, mp4 [self]hosting
PictShare launched on October 28, 2018 with 2 votes. The site was still online in September 2026, 7 years on.
What it does
PictShare was born out of the need for more control over the images we used in our projects, blogs and eBay pages. Host your own PictShare instance and you'll never have to trust a shady free image hoster again.
Free image sharing, linking and tracking
When you upload an image you'll get a link like this: https://pictshare.net/abcef123.jpg You can modify the size of the image by adding a size parameter to the URL. For example this will render the image in 800x600: https://pictshare.net/800x600/abcef123.jpg If you want to force the size to really be 800x600, you can use the "forcesize" parameter. It will still keep the aspect ratio but zoom in as needed to fit the dimensions https://pictshare.net/800x600/forcesize/abcef123.jpg All API calls are done via GET or POST requests. The API will return JSON encoded data. You can specify a URL in the POST or GET variable url that the call will try to download and process. You can modify images…from pictshare.net

It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
