Hi HN, I’ve been working the past year on something called Prototyper , and today we’re opening up the new version. The motivation is simple: whenever I built products in the past, I noticed the best ideas came after the “first version.” You try something, it feels wrong, you change it, repeat. Most tools make that painful. Prototyper is my attempt to make that loop natural—so you can explore ideas quickly instead of forcing them through a rigid workflow. This release includes: instant updates (no compile/refresh lag) simplified UI (months spent just removing steps) responsive by default customizable so it bends to your workflow, not the other way around What I’m most excited about though is under the hood: we’ve built all the core tech in-house (compiler, rendering engine, infra). That means we’re not stuck with the constraints of existing stacks. It’s been a lot of work, but it gives us room to try things that I don’t think anyone else is doing. This is still early. We’re giving everyone free access for the first week because I’d really love feedback from people who build things for a living. I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. I made a built-from scratch Wayland Compositor to display any GUI app* in the terminal! I think there is a lot of unexplored potential in custom Wayland compositors, a lot of really cool things you can embed existing applications into!
