Write up of an embedded project I made to control my analogue synthesizer. Happy to answer any questions or provide any further details of this project if wanted.

What it does
As soon as I started thinking about building my own synth, I built into that project the requirement to interface the synth with a computer using MIDI. After all, that's what I know for generating notes, and I didn't want to start building analogue keyboards or sequencers to make the synth work standalone. This interface became known as the Programmable Synth Controller, or psc for short. To figure out what we need, lets work backwards from the synth itself. The interface to the synth modules is a simple voltage level, via the "CV" (Control Voltage) inputs on the modules. To have the computer control the modules, then what we need is some way to convert a MIDI message into a voltage. The…from doug.lon.dev

What if your synthesizer was powered by APL (or a dumb K clone)?Mar 2026 · octetta.github.io · ▲92I built k-synth as an experiment to see if a minimalist, K-inspired array language could make sketching waveforms faster and more intuitive than traditional code. I’ve put together a web-based toolkit so you can try the syntax directly in the browser without having to touch a compiler: Live Toolkit: https://octetta.github.io/k-synth/ If you visit the page, here is a quick path to an audio payoff: - Click "patches" and choose dm-bell.ks. - Click "run"—the notebook area will update. Click the waveform to hear the result. - Click the "->0" button below the waveform to copy…

- IUI used AI to recreate a $4000 piece of audio hardware as a pluginJan 2026 · ▲160
Hi Hacker News, This is definitely out of my comfort zone. I just wanted to show you guys because I'm super proud of it. It's a 100% faithful recreation based off of the schematics, patents, and ROMs that were found online. So please watch the video and tell me what you think https://youtu.be/auOlZXI1VxA The reason why I think this is relevant is because I've been a programmer for 25 years and AI scares the shit out of me. I'm not a programmer anymore. I'm something else now. I don't know what it is but it's multi-disciplinary, and it doesn't involve writing code myself--for…
- IBI built a WebMIDI sequencer to control my hardware synthsDec 2025 · simplychris.ai · ▲43
Hey HN, I’m an ex-Google engineer trying to get back into music production. I needed a way to sequence my hardware synths using AI contexts without constantly switching windows, so I built this. It runs entirely in the browser using WebMIDI. No login required. It connects to your local MIDI devices (if you're on Chrome/Edge) and lets you generate patterns. Tech stack: [React / WebMIDI API / etc]. Link: www.simplychris.ai/droplets Code is a bit messy, but it works. Feedback welcome.
