RΞASON – Open-source TypeScript framework for LLM apps
Hi HN! I'm Inacio, the author of REASON. I've been tinkering with LLMs since the GPT-3 API's release May 2020. Seeing the emergence of many frameworks in the last 15 months has been exciting. While many understandably focused on launching quick, I found myself intrigued by a different question: what would a thoughtful, first-principles approach look like? This curiosity led to a personal project, RΞASON, a minimalistic open-source TypeScript framework. It's been a couple of months of digging deep and learning a ton, and I'm eager to share it and grow it with insights from all of you. In the…
RΞASON – Open-source TypeScript framework for LLM apps launched on December 19, 2023 with 16 votes, #900 of 3,780 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 2 years on.
In plain words
REASON is an open-source TypeScript framework designed for building applications with large language models. It takes a minimalist, first-principles approach to handle modern LLM capabilities like agents with tools, retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, and function calling. Built for developers working with LLMs, REASON aims to provide a thoughtful alternative to quick-launch frameworks by focusing on foundational design principles and extensibility.

The five principles of a good LLM framework.
I see LLMs as a new programming primitive, akin to databases in the 70s and the explosion of web technologies in the 2000s. They offer programmers a unique capability: the power to infuse code with reasoning and natural language understanding. Yet, new primitives need new abstractions. With RΞASON I hope to have created that. RΞASON is a backend open-source Typescript framework for building great LLM apps. This blog post will explore some of RΞASON's features and its design philoshopy. It won't be a tutorial — if you wish to learn how to use RΞASON, go to our docs , which is the best place to learn how to use RΞASON. I don't, however, see LLMs as a completely new way to program — LLMs…from tryreason.dev

RΞASON – Open-source TypeScript framework for LLM apps2023 · github.com · ▲7Hi HN! RΞASON is an OSS Typescript framework for developing LLM apps that uses Typescript's interfaces to get structured output from an LLM. While there are other TS LLM frameworks, I think RΞASON fills a unique space in the market: it's laser-focused on only three areas and, most importantly, actively stays away from pre-made prompting & retrieval. I've been in the LLM space since GPT-3 originally came out, and I've always had problems with other frameworks, such as LangChain. I dislike that they focus a ton on out-of-the-box prompting & pre-made agents — I, as the dev, should be the one in…
Axilla – Open-source TypeScript framework for LLM apps2023 · github.com · ▲161Hi HN, we are Nick and Ben, creators of Axilla - an open source TypeScript framework to develop LLM applications. It’s in the early stages but you can use it today: we’ve already published 2 modules and have more coming soon. Ben and I met while working at Cruise on the ML platform for self-driving cars. We spent many years there and learned the hard way that shipping AI is not quite the same as shipping regular code. There are many parts of the ML lifecycle, e.g., mining, processing, and labeling data and training, evaluating, and deploying models. Although none of them are rocket science,…
I wrote an open-source browser alternative for Computer Use for any LLM2024 · github.com · ▲180Hey HN, I made Browser-Use, an open-source tool that lets (all Langchain supported) LLMs execute tasks directly in the browser just with function calling. It allows you to build agents that interact with web elements using natural language prompts. We created a layer that simplifies website interaction for LLMs by extracting xPaths and interactive elements like buttons and input fields (and other fancy things). This enables you to design custom web automation and scraping functions without manual inspection through DevTools. Hasn't this been done a lot of times? Good question, as a general…
OpenUIMar 2026 · openui.com · ▲322Thesys just open-sourced their generative UI rendering engine. Interesting timing given where Google a2ui and Vercel's json-render are headed. The difference worth noting: a2ui and json-render both treat JSONL as the contract between the LLM and the renderer. Thesys is betting that's the wrong primitive. Their engine uses a code-like syntax (OpenUI Lang) instead — LLM writes it, renderer executes it. The argument is that LLMs are fundamentally better at generating code than generating structured data, so you get cleaner output and ~67% fewer tokens. The broader vision seems to be a…
Nous – Open-Source Agent Framework with Autonomous, SWE Agents, WebUI2024 · github.com · ▲155Hello HN! The day has finally come to stop adding features and start sharing what I've been building the last 5-6 months. It's a bit of CrewAI, OpenDevon, LangFuse/Cloud all in one, providing devs who prefer TypeScript an integrated framework thats provides a lot out of the box to start experimenting and building agents with. It started after peeking at the LangChain docs a few times and never liking the example code. I began experimenting with automating a simple Jira request from the engineering team to add an index to one of our Google Spanner databases (for context I'm the…
Open-Source Alternative to OpenAI Platform, for Local Models2025 · github.com · ▲93Hi everyone, we’re a small team, supported by Mozilla, who are working on re-imagining a UI for training, tuning and testing local LLMs. Everything is open source. If you’ve been training your own LLMs or have always wanted to, we’d love for you to play with the tool and give feedback on what the future development experience for LLM engineering could look like.

Hi HN! I’m proud to share that we have built a real 3rd party iMessage client for Android. We did it by reverse engineering the iMessage protocol and encryption system. It's available to download today (no waitlist): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beeper.ima and there's a technical writeup here: https://blog.beeper.com/p/how-beeper-mini-works. Unlike every other attempt to build an iMessage app for Android (including our first gen app), Beeper Mini does not use a Mac server relay in the cloud. The app connects directly to Apple…

Hey! I made Heynote entirely for my own use case. For many years, I always had an Emacs instance running with the scratch buffer open, even long after I had abandoned Emacs as my programming editor in favor of more recent IDE:s. The simplicity of having just one big scratch buffer appeals to me, but I still want to separate the different things I jot down somehow (without using tabs or similar). Previously, my solution was to insert a bunch of blank lines between the notes, but hitting C-A would still select the entire buffer. That's why I came up with the concept of "blocks", which turned…
