RackDiff

compare VPS & dedicated servers by price, not commission.

What it does

I built RackDiff because every hosting comparison I found sorted by affiliate commission, not by actual value. RackDiff pulls real prices twice daily, shows Trustpilot scores for transparency, and never ranks a provider higher because they pay more. Built with Next.js, PostgreSQL, and Python scrapers on a single €9/month VPS.

    Trying to fix the web scraping industry's benchmark problemJul 2026 · github.com · ▲18

We've been trying to evaluate web scraping companies, but when you look at their benchmarks, you can't verify anything, and they mostly exist to prove the company is successful. They put somewhere between 98% and 100% because they pick their own urls, define success their own way, and don't publish the harness. We also saw companies like scrapfly astroturf websites like scrapeway and call them independent. So, we built an open source benchmark that we want to represent the frontier of web data. We're trying to look across all major anti-bot providers and industries, to build a comprehensive…

    Easily compare the costs of newsletter platforms2024 · nl-compare.streamlit.app · ▲21

I've been writing on Substack for the last year, and from the beginning I've been aware that I might want to migrate to a different platform at some point. I've been looking into the various alternatives to Substack for a while, and always found it difficult to compare costs across the different platforms. There's just too many variables that factor into the cost, and each platform has a slightly different pricing scheme. I've also been looking for the chance to try Streamlit, a Python library for making dashboards. Getting started with Streamlit was even easier than I imagined, so I ended…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.

  • Hey HN, Henry from Cactus here! We previously released Cactus Needle, a 14MB agentic LLM for tool call, device use, and structured extraction for phones, wearables, smart homes, small robots and microcontrollers. We got really great feedback here, and have now incorporated the suggestions to release Needle 2. The whole model is a single 14MB binary that runs a full session in 28MB of RAM; 45m parameters at 2bit compression. Needle hits 500 tokens/sec decode speed on a Raspberry Pi 5, sits between 400-1,500 tokens/sec on VR devices like Meta Quest 3S and Apple Vision Pro, and ranges…

Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!
