The Pi-hole project is fantastic. It lets you easily set up an ad blocker on your home network to reduce both intrusive tracking and data usage. With people using home internet connections all day, this is more important than ever. However, it does suffer from some limitations. To fix these problems I have mine set up as a WiFi repeater / range extender. This improves WiFi coverage, allows switching between the unfiltered / filtered connections and forces all traffic through the filter from devices that try to evade it.
