What it does
Reefy turns any PC, mini PC, laptop, or GPU box into a private AI server. Unlike a traditional Linux install, there’s no setup: flash a USB drive, boot, and adopt it in your dashboard. Built with Buildroot for fast boot, NVIDIA GPU support, safe A/B upgrades, encrypted backups, remote access, and AI apps like OpenClaw, Hermes, Ollama, vLLM, SGLang, and more.

Run AI apps on hardware you own. Private. Local. Open source. From a mini-PC running private AI at home, to an edge computer processing community security cameras, to GPU racks in a datacenter, Reefy gives every machine the same simple operating model. Local CCTV and AI video processing on community-owned hardware. Process video close to the cameras. Keep your footage private and under your control. Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
