Research Buddy

Buddy for web, patent and academic research

Research Buddy launched on July 13, 2023 with 87 votes, #931 of 4,347 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 3 years on.

What it does

Research Buddy allows you to search the web, patents and academic papers, upload those papers for analysis, and also save your research into a file for later access. Log in by email and try it out for free.

Live research experiments from Trelis Research.

An LLM is a compressor — the better it models language, the fewer bits it needs to encode text it's never seen. BPBench measures that as exact bits-per-byte on fresh, provably-human writing published after each model's training cutoff. The best compressors are open models from Chinese labs; the closed frontier is hard to benchmark at all — and that's a result in itself. Models with knowledge cutoffs from Sep 2021 to Feb 2026 forecast valuations of OpenAI, Anthropic, NVIDIA, Alphabet and Meta — versus what actually happened. Plus: why point estimates mislead, hindsight calibration, and what tail shapes LLMs actually believefrom research.trelis.com

Hey HN, thank you for being a part of the internet we love. We’re Arnav, Mo, Jeremy and we’re building an “Internet for-you page” that recommends blogs and essays based on your interests. Try it here (https://www.browserbuddy.com/)! We love to discover and learn from personal blogs, essays, and articles on the internet. But despite exciting advancements in language modeling, it’s felt harder to discover interesting links from real people. We believe there is untapped potential to use these language models as “curators” rather than “creators”. To explore this, we’re building a…

I saw this [0] pretty cool thread by user revskill, and wanted a quicker way to search through it, but also to keep them all in one place so I can read them at my leisure whenever I get time. Right now is like 60 lines of Ruby using Nokogiri, but I will certainly look into it further down the line and improve the list. There's a cronjob checking the thread every 12 hours but I will eventually shut that down and it will become static after that. There are some really awesome blogs in there. I really recommend going through the list, it made my day. [0] "Could you share your personal blog…
