CarCheck – Car Buying Checklist App2024 · usefulchecklists.com · ▲164Hey HN! A few years ago my brother in-law was looking to purchase his first car. He was struggling to know what to look for when going to car dealerships and felt quite overwhelmed with the financial and practical decisions required. Not that I have any particular expertise with cars or the engineering involved, but through my own experiences purchasing cars and owning them I gave him some advice and "tips". As anyone would. Things only morphed from there, I spent the next couple of years in my spare time learning to code, researching, and developing CarCheck. It's been a journey! Hindsight…
Cardog 2025 · cardog.app · ▲21Hi everyone, we built a vehicle history report offering that I wanted to share and get some feedback on. It collects data from over 1,200 sources across North America and compiles to a single clean report like Carfax and Autocheck. We would really value any feedback from anyone currently in the researching/buying/selling phase - what pieces of information are / were essential in your recent purchases? Thank you!

New way to search for used cars (my weekend project)2011 · olegkikin.com · ▲160Each dot on the chart is a car. Horizontal scale = mileage. Vertical scale = price. The size of a dot = year (newer = larger), plus I colored 2007 .. 2011 in different colors to find "fresh" cars quicker. This is just some sample data from the last 24 hours, relatively cheap cars under $32,000 within 500 mile radius of NYC.

The site hit #1 on HN about a year ago. Got enough traffic that I turned it into a proper API. What's there: - REST API — 35k products, manually filterable by category, free key, 60 req/min - CLI — npx anycrap random -c food - faker.js plugin — bundled, no API call, works offline - HuggingFace dataset — full 35k rows for ML/training https://anycrap.shop/developers

I made a built-from scratch Wayland Compositor to display any GUI app* in the terminal! I think there is a lot of unexplored potential in custom Wayland compositors, a lot of really cool things you can embed existing applications into! So, I started with embedding apps into the terminal because that is the easiest input/output (output is just utf-8 and I use the great `chafa` library for that, and I just read from stdin for the input). If you have any other ideas for cool Wayland compositors, let me know. I purposedly wrote 80% the app in Typescript to appeal to the most developers and…

Years ago I stumbled across a basic version of this concept and it stuck with me. I knew if I was ever going to take on such a project, it would need to be flawless, but without coding experience it was just another idea that would never happen. By the end of 2024, as AI coding tools exploded everywhere, I finally had a way to make it real. I started from zero knowledge and spent months collaborating with AI agents as a learning experience. Every pixel and every function went through me. The AI translated what I asked for into code, but every decision was human. I didn't use existing OS…
