Running the second public ODoH relay

Every privacy-focused DNS service requires an account: NextDNS, Cloudflare for Families, Apple's iCloud Private Relay (paid, iOS-only). The protocol that doesn’t require one - ODoH - had basically one well-known public relay operator (Frank Denis on Fastly Compute, default in dnscrypt-proxy). I built a second one and the client to talk to it.

In plain words

Running the Second Public ODoH Relay provides an alternative infrastructure option for users seeking privacy-focused DNS without account requirements. ODoH (Oblivious DoH) is a protocol that enables encrypted DNS queries while maintaining user privacy, unlike services such as NextDNS, Cloudflare for Families, or Apple's iCloud Private Relay that require accounts or subscriptions. The maker built a second public relay operator to expand the limited options available, alongside a client application to connect to it, offering users greater choice in privacy-preserving DNS services.

From the sources

Every existing anonymous-DNS option (Apple Private Relay, NextDNS, Cloudflare Families) requires signing up. ODoH (RFC 9230) is the protocol that splits ‘who you are’ from ‘what you asked’ across two independent operators. Numa v0.14 ships the client, the relay, and a public deployment in one MIT-licensed binary. Here’s what the protocol actually does, what it doesn’t fix, and what it took to depl

If you run Pi-hole, AdGuard Home, or any forwarding resolver, every one of your queries goes through one operator who sees both your IP address and the question. If you switch to a recursive resolver like Unbound, your IP gets exposed to every authoritative nameserver instead - .com learns you exist, google.com learns you exist, and so does every CDN edge in the chain. DoH and DoT encrypt the transport ; they don’t change who learns what . Apple’s iCloud Private Relay solved this for Apple users by splitting the path: an ingress proxy sees your IP but not the request, an egress proxy sees the request but not your IP. DNS gets anonymized system-wide, but only with iCloud+ ($0.99/mo), only on…from numa.rs

Today we're introducing the innovative, privacy-focused, ad-supported DNS resolver - DN$! • Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
