Rust compiler in PHP emitting x86-64 executables
Hi! I put together a Rust compiler written in PHP. It takes Rust source code and outputs x86-64 Linux binaries directly. No LLVM, no assembler, no linker. It has a working ownership checker, borrow checker, type checker, structs, functions, control flow, and mutable references. The test suite has 80+ cases. The whole thing is around 2,500 lines of PHP.

In plain words
This is a Rust compiler implementation written in PHP that generates x86-64 executable files. It is designed for developers who need to compile Rust code using a PHP-based toolchain. The project targets systems running on x86-64 architecture, making it suitable for those working with 64-bit processors. This approach combines two typically separate ecosystems, offering an alternative compilation pathway for Rust developers.

A Rust compiler with ownership checking, written in PHP - mrconter1/rustc-php
A Rust compiler written in PHP that emits x86-64 Linux ELF binaries directly (no LLVM, no assembler, no linker). Implements ownership checking, borrow checking, type checking, move semantics, generics, traits, closures, and iterators. Useful if you need to compile Rust on a shared hosting server from 2008 where the only installed runtime is PHP. In order to execute Rust code you of course first need to install PHP. You can do this easily on Windows 11 by running: winget install PHP.PHP.8.4 This compiler outputs valid machine code for Linux, so the most practical approach if you're on Windows is to use WSL. Start by installing Ubuntu (if you haven't already): wsl --install After the install…from github.com

I'm making a dynamic language in Rust2022 · github.com · ▲184An implementation of a dynamic programming language in Rust. Includes: Parser/Compiler, REPL, Virtual Machine, Bytecode Disassembler This started out as a learning project to teach myself Rust. It has grown into a decently substantial piece of software and I've learned quite a bit in the process! Some neat things: + A garbage collector that can store dynamically sized types without any double-indirection (i.e. I have my own Box implementation with manual alloc/dealloc) + The smart pointer used to reference GCed data is a thin pointer. The ptr metadata needed for DSTs is stored in…

Talanoa▲340Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
