Server + CDN Cost Calculator (streaming)

Estimate video server + CDN costs for live events

Server + CDN Cost Calculator (streaming) launched on April 25, 2026.

What it does

A free calculator to budget self-hosted live streaming: pick an engine (OME/MediaMTX/Ant Media), size the origin server, model viewers × bitrate × hours, then compare origin-only vs CDN delivery to get a realistic monthly USD ballpark.

Plan self-hosted streaming costs: size an origin server (ingest + playback), then model audience load and delivery (origin-only or CDN). Includes illustrative $/GB and monthly totals.

Use the three tabs in order: server, audience, then delivery. The output column (or bottom bar on small screens) shows a monthly USD ballpark. Deployment hub for context. Not a quote — use it for planning. Tabs = server → playback → delivery. Total = monthly server + (per-event transfer × events). Same order as the deployment hub . No Mux / all-in-one edge products in the list. Provider , ingest count, and transcode ladder drive CPU, RAM, and GPU. Pick a plan where offered. Lower latency, richer engine — same hub ordering as the guides. Typical: one HLS rung or very small ladder; baseline CPU for self-hosted live. CCX (dedicated vCPU) list prices in the estimate; strong price/perf in EU.…from simulcast.stream

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

  • With social media and now AI, its important to keep the indie web alive. There are many people who write frequently. Blogosphere tries to highlight them by fetching the recent posts from personal blogs across many categories. There are two versions: Minimal (HN-inspired, fast, static): https://text.blogosphere.app/ Non-minimal: https://blogosphere.app/ If you don't find your blog (or your favorite ones), please add them. I will review and approve it.
