Slash Star
This is a small personal project around code-inspired clothing. I’ve been working as a developer for a long time, but I’ve never owned a developer t-shirt. I’ve always found most of them too loud or too jokey for everyday wear, so I eventually stopped looking. With freelance work being quieter recently, I finally spent some time on an idea that had been in my head for years — seeing if I could make the kind of thing I’d actually want to wear. From a technical point of view it’s pretty simple: Shopify for the storefront with Printful handling print-on-demand and fulfilment. It’s just me…

What it does
Most developer T-shirts are built around jokes or novelty. This launch takes a different approach, treating developer clothing like a design problem. Each design is inspired by real programming languages and concepts, reduced to minimal references made for everyday wear. Features include language-specific designs, light and dark mode variants, and print-on-demand production to reduce waste. Built as a solo side project by a developer who wanted something quieter.
Minimalist developer T-shirts inspired by real code. Subtle designs for programmers, designers, and anyone who prefers clean syntax.

I had this idea rolling around in my head for the last couple of years, and I finally decided to build the damned thing just to get idea relief. The backend is a typical LAMP stack with the Symfony2 framework backing the P. Varnish sits in front of all the Chef managed Linode boxes. The site will work without Javascript (up until the checkout), and the style degrades really nicely depending on your viewport (try it out by resizing your browser). I'm open to all comments and critiques, so let me hear them. And if you are into graphic t-shirts, here is a code for a Hacker News 20% discount:…

Talanoa▲346Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

Hello my name is Ben Ward for the past 3 years I have been remastering the financial game Wall Street Raider created by Michael Jenkins originally on DOS in 1986. It has been a rough journey but I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I just recently redid the website and thought maybe the full story of how this project came to be would interest you all. Thank you for reading.
