In plain words

SocketCluster is an open-source real-time server framework designed for building scalable pub/sub systems. It supports RPC calls, JWT authentication, and Kubernetes deployment with built-in CLI shortcuts. The platform handles millions of lightweight channels efficiently with automatic cleanup, and scales horizontally on Kubernetes clusters. It is built for developers who need async/await-optimized communication infrastructure.

From the sources

Pub/sub channels are lightweight and efficient. You can have millions of unique channels without worrying about memory or CPU usage. Channels are automatically cleaned up when they are no longer used. The socketcluster CLI tool exposes kubectl (Kubernetes) shortcut commands to make it easy to deploy your app to any Kubernetes cluster. All necessary Kubernetes .yaml files are provided. After deploying your app to a Kubernetes cluster, you can scale indefinitely by using the kubectl scale deployment command to add more scc-worker and scc-broker instances as needed. You can perform asynchronous operations anywhere along a socket's inbound or outbound stream without disrupting the message…from socketcluster.io

I've been working on this for some time now, starting with vm2, then deno-core for 2 years, and recently rewrote it on rusty_v8 with Claude's help. OpenWorkers lets you run untrusted JS in V8 isolates on your own infrastructure. Same DX as Cloudflare Workers, no vendor lock-in. What works today: fetch, KV, Postgres bindings, S3/R2, cron scheduling, crypto.subtle. Self-hosting is a single docker-compose file + Postgres. Would love feedback on the architecture and what feature you'd want next.

    DriftDB – an open source WebSocket backend for real-time apps2023 · driftdb.com · ▲367

Hey HN! I’ve written a bunch of WebSocket servers over the years to do simple things like state synchronization, WebRTC signaling, and notifying a client when a backend job was run. I realized that if I had a simple way to create a private, temporary, mini-redis that the client could talk to directly, it would save a lot of time. So we created DriftDB. In addition to the open source server that you can run yourself, we also provide https://jamsocket.live where you can use an instance we host on Cloudflare’s edge (~13ms round trip latency from my home in NY). You may have seen my…

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
