Code completion has come a long way. When I created TabNine in 2018, the first tool to use deep learning for code completion, there were few developer tools that used AI. The models were small, the capabilities were limited, and people were skeptical that the tools were useful enough to be worth paying for. Since then, AI coding tools have been widely adopted: GitHub recently announced that its tool Copilot had reached $100 million in annual recurring revenue.
