Tablemd – canvas-based Markdown table editor

I created a canvas-based Markdown table editor, which provides a novel (I think) editing experience. I'd love for people to try it out, or bookmark it for the next time they want to insert a one-off table into a Markdown-formatted comment. My design goals were 1) frictionless user input and 2) fast startup time. Some good-to-knows: - Can be used on mobile - Table data is saved locally to the browser (nothing is sent to a server) - I only tested this on a MacBook, so let me know if the trackpad calibration feels off

In plain words

Tablemd is a canvas-based Markdown table editor designed for quick, frictionless creation of tables for use in Markdown-formatted comments and documents. It works on both desktop and mobile devices, stores all data locally in the browser with no server uploads, and prioritizes fast startup times. The tool is useful for anyone who occasionally needs to insert tables into Markdown content without complexity.

Inspired by the design and UI/UX of apps like Notion, and utility of open-source apps like StackEdit, I decided to create a minimalistic, local-only WYSIWYG Markdown editor. Some features worth highlighting: - Monaco editor and Prettier integration for code snippets - Tables (apparently the holy grail of WYSIWYG editing) - Embeds (for CodePen, CodeSandbox and YouTube, most useful for HTML or JSON exports) - Accepts Markdown paste-in, and "exports"/generates HTML, Markdown and JSON outputs - Collaboration (with real-time awareness and initial commenting system, available only when…

The intention of Markdown is to minimise the formatting burden while writing and keep the content as plaintext for easy to read and share. But, when it comes to tables, things are a bit embarrassing. In nature, tables are structured into rows and columns and heavily depend on the format to visually

What's there: - REST API — 35k products, manually filterable by category, free key, 60 req/min - CLI — npx anycrap random -c food - faker.js plugin — bundled, no API call, works offline - HuggingFace dataset — full 35k rows for ML/training https://anycrap.shop/developers

  • I made a built-from scratch Wayland Compositor to display any GUI app* in the terminal! I think there is a lot of unexplored potential in custom Wayland compositors, a lot of really cool things you can embed existing applications into! So, I started with embedding apps into the terminal because that is the easiest input/output (output is just utf-8 and I use the great `chafa` library for that, and I just read from stdin for the input). If you have any other ideas for cool Wayland compositors, let me know. I purposedly wrote 80% the app in Typescript to appeal to the most developers and…

Years ago I stumbled across a basic version of this concept and it stuck with me. I knew if I was ever going to take on such a project, it would need to be flawless, but without coding experience it was just another idea that would never happen. By the end of 2024, as AI coding tools exploded everywhere, I finally had a way to make it real. I started from zero knowledge and spent months collaborating with AI agents as a learning experience. Every pixel and every function went through me. The AI translated what I asked for into code, but every decision was human. I didn't use existing OS…
