In plain words

Tesserocr is a Python wrapper for the Tesseract optical character recognition engine. It allows developers to integrate OCR capabilities into Python applications by providing programmatic access to Tesseract's text recognition functionality. The tool is designed for software engineers and developers who need to extract text from images within their Python projects. It is hosted on GitHub where users can contribute to its development.

Almost exactly 1 year ago, I submitted something to HN about using Llama2 (which had just come out) to improve the output of Tesseract OCR by correcting obvious OCR errors [0]. That was exciting at the time because OpenAI's API calls were still quite expensive for GPT4, and the cost of running it on a book-length PDF would just be prohibitive. In contrast, you could run Llama2 locally on a machine with just a CPU, and it would be extremely slow, but "free" if you had a spare machine lying around. Well, it's amazing how things have changed since then. Not only have models gotten a lot better,…

Tesseract is one of the largest Open Source OCR (Optical Character Recognition) projects. There is already a Go library for using Tesseract from Go with CGo, called Gosseract. However if you are interested in OCR from Go without C complicating building and cross-compiling, there aren't any other options. Wazero is a Go WASM runtime that doesn't have any CGo dependencies. With Emscripten Tesseract has been compiled to WASM and ran within Wazero. Gogosseract provides a simple API on top of this. This project has been an interesting delve into the world of WASM.

Online OCR Free – Batch OCR UI for Tesseract, Gemini and OpenRouterMar 2026 · onlineocrfree.qzz.io · ▲14

Built this because people working with large document sets had no free tool that handled batch processing cleanly. Tesseract is free and runs locally. For anything that needs more accuracy — Google Vision, Gemini, or any OpenRouter model — you bring your own API key. No subscription, no markup on your usage. Export as TXT, JSON, XML or PDF. AI engines support custom prompts so you can translate, extract form fields, or get structured output in one step. Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
