In plain words
This is a demonstration project combining Backbone.js, a JavaScript framework, with Google App Engine's Python backend. It adapts the Backbone.js Todos example application to use Google App Engine's Datastore instead of local storage, connecting through a RESTful JSON interface. The project serves as a learning resource for developers exploring how to integrate Backbone.js with App Engine's infrastructure. Code and documentation are available on GitHub for contribution and study.

I'm just learning to use the Backbone.js JavaScript framework and I was curious about making it work with Google App Engine . So I took the Todos example application and started to play. Backbone.js connects to your application over a RESTful JSON interface. And everything you have to know about how to construct the RESTful Handler is in the Backbone.sync documentation . So I've created a RESTful handler with one function for each HTTP method ( main.py ): In order to point the collection to the GAE Datastore I've removed the backbone-localstorage.js file dependency and mapped the collection to the url /todos ( todos.js ). Then I mapped the URL path to the RESTfulHandler ( main.py ): I'm…from github.com

Talanoa▲341Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

My cofounder and I have been working on a site called Fitocracy (www.fitocracy.com), which is a social game for fitness. The idea was very much inspired by our experiences growing up as nerds playing video games, later on discovering weightlifting, and drawing the parallel between working out and "leveling yourself up." XKCD has a pretty well known comic to this effect: http://xkcd.com/189/. We find that the metaphor of workout out as leveling up in a video game resonates with quite a few people, so Fitocracy is an attempt to bring that to life. On Fitocracy, tracking your workouts earns you…
