Underrated Postgres: Build Multi-Tenancy with Row-Level Security
Utilizing Postgres' RLS feature to isolate user data instead of easy-to-forget where-clauses, is such an underrated use case, I really wonder why not more people use it. If you prefer code over the blog post, I've put the full application example on GitHub. Would love to hear your thoughts. https://github.com/simplyblock/example-rls-invoicing

We've been hard at work for a few weeks and thought it's time for another update. In case you missed our first post, PostgresML is an end-to-end machine learning solution, running alongside your favorite database. This time we have more of a suite offering: project management, visibility into the datasets and the deployment pipeline decision making. Let us know what you think! Demo link is on the page, and also here: https://demo.postgresml.org
Postgres query lock explainer2023 · github.com · ▲143This is like 4 years old, but I’m braver now and ready to share stuff with this community. I’ve been a lurker for a while. I made this tool - it’s kind of like “explain” but it tells you about what locks would be required by the query. I was making it as part of a larger tool that would try to prevent deadlocks during migrations at my last company, I never finished it.

Sqlauthz: Declarative permissions management for PostgreSQL2023 · github.com · ▲15I've been working on a little project recently to solve a problem that I've encountered at every job I've ever had, and I'm eager for some feedback. Having super granular roles & permissions in PostgreSQL is desirable, but quite difficult to maintain (particularly at smaller companies without dedicated security/devops/DBA/whatever who make it their business to maintain it). I've thought for a while that having a declarative way to manage them would be really useful and allow more teams to actually make use of sophisticated security features that PostgreSQL offers in their…

Talanoa▲346Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

I made a built-from scratch Wayland Compositor to display any GUI app* in the terminal! I think there is a lot of unexplored potential in custom Wayland compositors, a lot of really cool things you can embed existing applications into! So, I started with embedding apps into the terminal because that is the easiest input/output (output is just utf-8 and I use the great `chafa` library for that, and I just read from stdin for the input). If you have any other ideas for cool Wayland compositors, let me know. I purposedly wrote 80% the app in Typescript to appeal to the most developers and…

Years ago I stumbled across a basic version of this concept and it stuck with me. I knew if I was ever going to take on such a project, it would need to be flawless, but without coding experience it was just another idea that would never happen. By the end of 2024, as AI coding tools exploded everywhere, I finally had a way to make it real. I started from zero knowledge and spent months collaborating with AI agents as a learning experience. Every pixel and every function went through me. The AI translated what I asked for into code, but every decision was human. I didn't use existing OS…
