What it does

Every housing society in India has the same gate problem: a paper register, a guard who calls residents for verbal approval, and zero audit trail. VisitorPasses replaces all of that with a QR code printed on A4 paper. Visitors scan it to fill a form. Guards scan vehicle stickers for instant entry. Residents generate guest passes from their phone. The admin sees every entry, every vehicle, every pass — with no app to install and no hardware to buy.

The all-in-one platform for housing societies. Manage billing, maintenance, resident portals, gate security, and digital visitor passes in one secure app.

  • I built an app to use a QR code as my doorbell2024 · dingdongdoorbell.com · ▲140

I didn’t have a doorbell before (multiple reasons) and my house feels unwelcoming without one. So I built a doorbell app that uses a QR code - visitors scan the QR code to ring the doorbell and I get notified on my phone. Here is an example of the QR code I have on my door. You can scan it and say hello: https://www.thebacklog.net/img/2024/10/show-hn.png This was also a great excuse to build my first app for Android and iPhone. I’d love to get some feedback before I spend more time polishing the app. Please try it out and feel free to ask me any questions! No…

  • Scan QR codes to check in guests registered via Google Forms2023 · workspace.google.com · ▲115

Hi HN! I made a no-code platform for creating physical data collection apps, using QR codes [1]. It does not yet have a self-service config UI though, which limits adoption. That's why I recently released a Google Forms™ add-on for QR code check-in, based on the platform. This focused use-case makes it easy to provide a fully self-service config UI. How it works: 1. Create your Google Form as you normally would [2] 2. Activate the add-on if you hadn't already [3] 3. Craft a confirmation email to be sent to each form responder Upon each form submission, the add-on will send a PDF with a…

  • Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!

  • Hi HN! I was super frustrated at apps like tiktok and wechat preventing me from saving or downloading the animated gifs, so I made a little tool to turn a screen recording into a slack-sized emoji. Hope you get some value from this!
