Volt

The API client that respects you. 4 MB, git-native.

What it does

Volt is a complete API development toolkit in a single ~4 MB binary. Built from scratch in Zig with zero dependencies. Plain-textvolt files live in your git repo — no account, no cloud, no telemetry, no Electron. Requests, testing, mocking, load testing, import/export, a web UI — everything Postman does in 1/100th the size. Starts in <10ms, uses 5 MB RAM. Import from Postman/Insomnia/OpenAPI in one command. Export to 18 languages. Built-in CI/CD with JUnit reports.

    Volt – Fast, Git-native API client written in Zig (Postman alternative)Mar 2026 · github.com · ▲5

Hey HN, I wanted to build something real in Zig, and I was annoyed that Postman needed an account and an internet connection just to send a GET request. So I figured I'd make something I would actually use. It kind of snowballed from there. 50,000+ lines later, it does requests, test assertions, collections, environments, CI/CD reports, import/export, and has a browser-based Web UI (`volt ui`). All in a single binary with zero external dependencies. Some numbers: - Binary size: ~4 MB (Postman: ~500 MB) - Startup: 42ms (Postman: 3-8 seconds) - RAM idle: ~5 MB (Postman: 300-800 MB) -…

    We scaled Git to support 1 TB repos2022 · xethub.com · ▲279

I’ve been in the MLOps space for ~10 years, and data is still the hardest unsolved open problem. Code is versioned using Git, data is stored somewhere else, and context often lives in a 3rd location like Slack or GDocs. This is why we built XetHub, a platform that enables teams to treat data like code, using Git. Unlike Git LFS, we don’t just store the files. We use content-defined chunking and Merkle Trees to dedupe against everything in history. This allows small changes in large files to be stored compactly. Read more here:…

    Gitgpt – Natural Language Git2023 · github.com · ▲108

Hey folks, Here's a quick and dirty tool to use natural language to get git to do what you want. Example: $gitgpt create a new branch called feature/test add all the files and commit with msg creating feature test then push to origin I haven't put it through the wringer yet, however it's worked well with some pretty straight forward day to day git usage.
