We built ChatterBooth, an anonymous app to talk and chat freely
Hi HN, I’m Billy, co-founder of ChatterBooth. It’s an anonymous app where people can talk or chat freely without judgment. The idea came in 2020 when one of my co-founders wanted to share about his mom’s cancer recovery but couldn’t. It made us realize how hard it is to open up online. Finally, we released the app earlier this year. We’ve also noticed people venting to AI chatbots just to be heard, but AI doesn’t really get you. ChatterBooth is for real human connection, even if it’s anonymous. In the future, if there’s enough traction, we want to reward people as Conversation Starters or…
In plain words
ChatterBooth is an anonymous chat app that connects people for genuine conversation without judgment. Launched in 2025, it addresses the difficulty people have opening up online by facilitating human-to-human connection rather than AI interactions. The app is designed for anyone seeking judgment-free conversation about personal topics. Available on iOS across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, ChatterBooth distinguishes itself by prioritizing real human connection over automated responses, with plans to reward active participants as the platform grows.

In the maker’s words, at launch
Hi HN, I’m Billy, co-founder of ChatterBooth. It’s an anonymous app where people can talk or chat freely without judgment. The idea came in 2020 when one of my co-founders wanted to share about his mom’s cancer recovery but couldn’t. It made us realize how hard it is to open up online. Finally, we released the app earlier this year. We’ve also noticed people venting to AI chatbots just to be heard, but AI doesn’t really get you. ChatterBooth is for real human connection, even if it’s anonymous. In the future, if there’s enough traction, we want to reward people as Conversation Starters or Accommodating Strangers — small gestures to encourage connection. We launched on the iOS App Store in 23 countries across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific and have a few hundred downloads so far. It’s still early, still bootstrapped, but it’s been amazing to see real, honest moments happening in the app. If this kind of thing interests you or you’ve built something similar, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Check out our site and join our Discord if you want to. Thanks for reading.

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.

Hey HN, Henry from Cactus here! We previously released Cactus Needle, a 14MB agentic LLM for tool call, device use, and structured extraction for phones, wearables, smart homes, small robots and microcontrollers. We got really great feedback here, and have now incorporated the suggestions to release Needle 2. The whole model is a single 14MB binary that runs a full session in 28MB of RAM; 45m parameters at 2bit compression. Needle hits 500 tokens/sec decode speed on a Raspberry Pi 5, sits between 400-1,500 tokens/sec on VR devices like Meta Quest 3S and Apple Vision Pro, and ranges…
