In plain words
Wget-finder is a development tool that helps locate alternative download sources for software archives used in static Linux binary builds. It addresses the problem of broken or unavailable package mirrors by finding working URLs from alternative sources, making it easier to maintain and rebuild Linux utilities through the bifrost-build recipe system.

Since some days ago I’ve been playing with bifrost-build , a github repository with recipes for building static linux binaries. The recipes are no different from other linux distributions where an archive hardcoded (containing the original source code) needs to be downloaded and match an specific hash (in this case a md5sum) to continue the build. While I was reviewing the recipes I noticed than some origins wheren’t available anymore. Fortunately there are plenty of mirrors for the most common utils installed with any linux system, so it wasn’t difficult to find alternative urls from where to fetch the missing bits (thanks mirrors and bifrost-build!). After completing the builds I though…from javier.io

Buildstash2025 · buildstash.com · ▲168Hey HN! We just launched open sign up on Buildstash. It's a platform for managing and sharing software binaries. I'd worked across game dev, mobile apps, and agencies - and found every team had no real system for managing their built binaries. Often just dumped in a shared folder (if someone remembered!). No system for versioning, keeping track of who'd signed off what when, or what exact build had gone to a client, etc. Existing tools out there for managing build artifacts are really focused on package repository management. But miss all the other types of software not being deployed that…

I’ve been in the MLOps space for ~10 years, and data is still the hardest unsolved open problem. Code is versioned using Git, data is stored somewhere else, and context often lives in a 3rd location like Slack or GDocs. This is why we built XetHub, a platform that enables teams to treat data like code, using Git. Unlike Git LFS, we don’t just store the files. We use content-defined chunking and Merkle Trees to dedupe against everything in history. This allows small changes in large files to be stored compactly. Read more here:…
Nix Snapshotter – Native understanding of Nix packages for containerd2023 · github.com · ▲145Hello! This is Edgar and Robbie and we built nix-snapshotter. nix-snapshotter brings native understanding of Nix packages to containerd. We built this because Nix is a great fit for making efficient containers. They don't need an OS because Nix captures all dependencies exactly. However, the current process of creating Nix images is subpar because one needs to transform Nix packages into a format that container runtimes understand. Using nix-snapshotter, instead of downloading image layers, packages come directly from the Nix store. Packages can be fetched from a binary cache or built on the…

Talanoa▲340Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
