Whales as Individuals

What it does

Help us identify individual Humpback Whales by clueing our computer algorithms in to patterns on their tails

Finished! Looks like this project is out of data at the moment! Active stats provide information about currently active workflows and subjects. Connect with the research team on Talk to learn more about this project! Humpback Whales can be individually identified by patterns on their tails (flukes). Once we know whales as individuals, we can learn their personalities, as well as better understand behavior, conservation issues and population trends. But comparing thousands of individual fluke patterns becomes very difficult and time-intensive. Your annotations on Humpback Whale tails (flukes) help us guide computer algorithms to match new whales to whales we've known forfrom zooniverse.org
