ZipSee – explore remote ZIP archives using HTTP range requests
A small tool that uses HTTP range requests to explore ZIP archives remotely — list contents and download specific files without fetching the entire archive. Try out this URL (https://docs.python.org/3/archives/python-3.14-docs-text.zip) as an example.

What it does
we send a HEAD request to the url to check if the server supports Accept-Ranges: bytes . this tells us we can request specific byte ranges instead of downloading the entire file. we also detect whether the connection uses HTTP/2 for multiplexed requests. zip files store their table of contents (the "central directory") at the end of the file. we use a range request to fetch just the last 16 KB, which contains the end-of-central-directory record. from that, we learn where the full directory listing lives and fetch it — typically a few KB even for archives with thousands of files. we parse every entry in the central directory — file names, sizes, compression methods, offsets — and build an…from zipsee.pages.dev

It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

With social media and now AI, its important to keep the indie web alive. There are many people who write frequently. Blogosphere tries to highlight them by fetching the recent posts from personal blogs across many categories. There are two versions: Minimal (HN-inspired, fast, static): https://text.blogosphere.app/ Non-minimal: https://blogosphere.app/ If you don't find your blog (or your favorite ones), please add them. I will review and approve it.
