diny▲175Hi everyone, I built a CLI tool called *diny* that generates Git commit messages directly from your staged changes. - It runs `git diff` and filters out noise like lockfiles, build artifacts, and binaries. - From the cleaned diff it suggests a clear commit message. - You can confirm or refine the message before committing. Key points: - No setup or API keys required. - Lightweight, local-first workflow. - Supports different lengths and styles (short, normal, long; conventional or simple). - Built in Go with Cobra for a familiar CLI experience. Repo:…

I've always wanted a better way to explore the authorship data embedded in a Git commit log. I'm having fun building a CLI tool to do this. It's a bit like the "Contributors" tab on Github that shows you how many commits each contributor has made but much faster and with many more options. If you get a chance to try it out, please let me know. I'd love to hear feedback and suggestions. Thank you!

Git Hooting▲12400's called, they want their RSS feeds back. I was looking at my growing Github gist collection when a sudden urge to blog and make a name for myself "by not programming" struck. Part way into implementing my oh so special static website generator it occurred to me that, quite frankly, Github gists is a pretty decent publishing platform. I mean, it gives you reasonably extended markdown with previews, heck I could even write in org-mode, has comments, follower - followee relationship, extended search with filters, check out locally and push your edits. Did someone say "edit button"? Thus the…

Hi HN! This is just a fun little tool I made after I got nerdsniped by noticing that one of my commits naturally started with "fae". I thought that was cute, so I looked up existing tools that make vanity commit hashes, but none of them seemed great to me (and none supporting signing commits). I learned a fair deal about how git actually stores commits while making this, and I think I came up with a novel way to generate a vanity hash: adding an extra header to the commit file. This was just a quick project to satisfy my curiosity, but I thought you all might find it neat. Notice that all…

I put together a small prototype that might help folks like me who struggle with keeping their website’s blog active just for SEO. It’s a basic tool: you enter your Git repo details (owner, name, branch), pick a date range, and it generates a short blog post from the commits in that period. The idea is to give small businesses and solo devs a way to keep their blog up-to-date with actual product updates without needing to write new content. Right now, it’s still pretty minimal but I’d really appreciate any feedback, especially if you think this could be useful, or if you have ideas on how it…

I built a tool which you can use to visualise your git commits at an org or repository level. It shows just how much work an engineering team, or even an individual does, that often goes unseen by non-dev teams. You can read about the build here: https://ably.com/blog/visualize-your-commits-in-realtime-wit... Repo is here: https://github.com/ably-labs/github-commit-visualizer You can deploy your own to netlify (or provider of your choice) and start visualising your own project's commits in realtime.
