A tiny TCP load balancer 🍸. Contribute to inlets/mixctl development by creating an account on GitHub.
A tiny TCP load balancer is a lightweight tool for distributing network traffic across multiple servers. It handles TCP connections efficiently without requiring extensive system resources. The project is designed for… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. Hi everyone, I recently published a small open-source project. It’s a minimal network packet analyzer written in Go — designed more like a learning toy than a replacement for Wireshark. It currently supports parsing basic protocols like TLS, DNS, and HTTP, and includes a tiny fuzzing engine to test payload responses. You can inspect raw packet content directly from the terminal. The output is colored for readability, and the code structure is kept simple and clear. The entire program is very small — just about 400 lines of Go code. I know it’s not anywhere near Wireshark’s level, and I still…

Hey HN! Lev and Justin here, authors of PgDog (https://pgdog.dev/), a connection pooler, load balancer and database sharder for PostgreSQL. If you build apps with a lot of traffic, you know the first thing to break is the database. We are solving this with a network proxy that works without requiring application code changes or database migrations. Our post from last year: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44099187 The most important update: we are in production. Sharding is used a lot, with direct-to-shard queries (one shard per query) working pretty much…

This program can be used to tunnel TCP connections through a file. People have used it for interesting things: - Bridging connections which would otherwise be blocked by a firewall - Tunneling through RDP (similar to an SSH tunnel) - Exposing a localhost web server to others Key features I put effort into: 1. The shared file is restarted every 10 MB, so it doesn't grow indefinitely. 2. Optimisations for latency & bandwidth. (800 Mbps on a Gigabit LAN. 108 Mbps if file tunneling through RDP) 3. Synchronisation between two sides (each side can be started and restarted in any order) I'd love to…

I found hping3 and nmap's nping to be far too slow in terms of sending individual, bare-minimum (40-byte) TCP SYN packets; other than inefficient socket I/O, they were also attempting to do far too much unnecessary processing in what should have otherwise been a tight execution loop. Furthermore, none of them were able to handle CIDR notations (i.e., a range of IP addresses) as their source IP parameter. Being intended for embedded devices (e.g., low-power MIPS/Arm-based routers), Blitzping only depends on standard POSIX headers and C11's libc (whether musl or gnu). To that end,…

I often reached for `socat` when I needed to forward a TCP port from my local machine for testing, and I was curious how easy it was to write such a utility in Go. At 105 lines of Go, it was easy enough. It has limited functionality - TCP only, no port mapping, binds to all local network interfaces - but it serves its purpose, so I wanted to share this with others.

Facebook's Katran looked too scary (and I don't do C++), so I thought I would investigate using XDP/eBPF to redirect packets at high speed and Go to do the control plane work of health-checking backed servers and managing configuration. With luck the resulting binary should be easy to deploy by non-developers. It's still not mature, but seems to work. Code was written in a very exploratory manner, and I'm not a developer so it is quite shocking at the moment, but I aim to improve it. It is intended to be horizontally scalable with ECMP and has been tested on service providing…

I've been a long-time Cloudflare user, but sometimes I just want a global load balancer without the lock-in and with full configuration control (e.g., some Cloudflare rules require an enterprise plan). I love Caddy for its easy configuration, and that's why I created Novnaode. It makes it easy to launch hosted Caddy instances (with Nginx coming soon) and puts you fully in control of how to manage the configurations. No more being restricted by enterprise tiers or limited configuration options - just simple, powerful, and flexible global load balancing. Check it out here:…
