I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.

I'm excited to share with HN a new pet project I've been working on to explore how AI can create and explain harmonic chord progressions - Chord Variations. The project uses GPT-4 to generate unique and interesting chord combinations based on user input chord progression. It's akin to having a virtual musical assistant that can help non-musicians and musicians alike explore and create harmonious sound without needing any prior knowledge of music theory. The generated chord suggestions maintain a similar vibe to the user input. Alternative chord progression includes extended chords, chord…

Hi Hacker News, I've created Chord Nebula, a simple web-based game designed to help users learn and practice piano chords, basic progressions, and harmony fundamentals. The game integrates with MIDI keyboards, allowing you to play chords in real-time and receive immediate feedback based on the key you choose. GitHub Repository: https://github.com/yottanami/chord_nebula Live Demo: https://chords.yottanami.com Requirements: To use Chord Nebula, you'll need a MIDI keyboard connected to your computer. Current Status: Chord Nebula is still a simple project. I'm…

Hi HN, I built Contrapunk because I wanted to play guitar and hear counterpoint harmonies generated in real-time. It takes audio from your guitar, MIDI player or your computer keyboard and generates harmony voices that follow counterpoint rules to generate harmonies. You can choose the key you would like to improvise/play in and the voice leading style and which part of the harmony you would like to play as, as well. macOS DMG: https://github.com/contrapunk-audio/contrapunk/releases/tag/... Author here - one of the most notable facts about the app is that it's made entirely in Godot Game Engine! I think it's great for apps like this because it makes it especialy easy to iterate on GUI designs such as this one. Feel free to ask me anything about Chord Chart Memo, or my experience with Godot.

Built this over the weekend to bridge the gap between "can hum a melody" and "can code algorithmic music patterns" (Strudel/TidalCycles) for live coding and live dj'ing. What it does: Real-time pitch detection in browser using multiple algorithms: CREPE (deep learning model via TensorFlow.js) YIN (autocorrelation-based fundamental frequency estimation) FFT with harmonic product spectrum AMDF (average magnitude difference function) Outputs: visual piano roll, MIDI files, Strudel/TidalCycles code All client-side, nothing leaves your machine Why multiple algorithms: Different pitch…

This started out when I vibe-coded a guitar scale fingering generator. It came out pretty good, and I started adding stuff to it: chords, then how chords and scales interact. Then I added charts for other instruments I mess around with: piano, cello, alto recorder. There's a complexity toggle to go from basic harmony to extended/experimental stuff. It's honestly still mostly a toy, but I thought other people might be interested in playing with it. Source is on github, so it's easy enough to run locally and fork. https://github.com/aleshh/gtr-scales
