Most site blockers work by blacklisting distractions. That never worked for me, the internet is too big, and there’s always something new to waste time on. I wanted the opposite: allowlist‑only browsing. Block everything by default, and explicitly allow only what I need. So I built Sinkzone: a local DNS forwarder with two modes: Monitor mode: lets all traffic through, but logs every domain so you can decide what to allow. Focus mode: only allowlisted domains resolve; everything else is blocked (NXDOMAIN). It’s open source, written in Go, and runs locally on macOS, Linux, and Windows. Works a…

Hi All, I created my company: Globemallow.io. Browser extensions for reducing the carbon footprint of the internet. Globemallow calculates CO2 emitted and energy (kWh) usage on webpage load, and provides a personalized sustainable development report on how each page can become more efficient from a sustainable development perspective. An Internet Sustainability Grade is calculated for each webpage. While working on Globemallow, I realized that a significant portion of websites had larger load times due to an asinine amount of analytics (tracking) and advertising scripts executing on each…

Hi all, This past month I have been working on Affililink, a way for blog and forum owners to monetise their site without the need to display adverts. With a small javascript snippet, Affililink will scan all outbound links and where possible, add your affiliate code, effectively automating your affiliate scheme. The idea came to me when I noticed a number of users post ebay links on a forum I manage. As ebay runs an affiliate scheme, I soon realised these links could help cover the running costs of the site. I'd love to hear your feedback on this as it's my first serious project launch.…

Hello HN, I started building GeoSpoof after I noticed my IP says one country, but the browser still hands sites my real location. Websites were flagging me because of this discrepancy. I searched for a good geolocation spoofer, only to go down a rabbit hole that there are dozens of signals that your browser emits and no tool could cover them all on every platform. GeoSpoof overrides every location-related API to present one consistent signal for location. You can search a city, enter coordinates, or hit "Sync with VPN" to auto-detect your exit region and match it, which re-syncs when you…

I built a Chrome extension that generates noise traffic to dilute your browsing profile. Instead of trying to hide what you do online (increasingly difficult), it buries your real activity in a flood of decoy searches, page visits, and ad clicks across dozens of site categories. The core idea is signal dilution — the same principle behind chaff in radar countermeasures and differential privacy in data science. If you visit 50 pages today and Poisson visits 500 more on your behalf, anyone analyzing your traffic (ISP, data broker, ad-tech) sees noise, not signal. How it works: - Uses a Poisson…

Hey! I'm a solo developer having fun learning Go. I have a side hustle and wanted to implement currency localization. I could use existing IP databases, but hosting on serverless is slow. So I built my own. I was surprised how fun it can be to use Go, and it's fast. Thankfully, Go's speed makes up for my dodgy code. Anyway, I'd love to get some feedback on my website/API. After a few weeks of testing and losing money on ads, I'm confident it's very reliable. This isn't a promo. It's basicly free (30k lookups/month), so there's no need to pay. Any advice or tips on how to grow and…
