Hey all, wanted to share my recent weekend hack project. I wanted to improve upon the existing space for looking up information about IP addresses and ASNs. The backend is written in Rust and pulls BGP data every 8 hours from the RIPE RIS project to build up a routing table and also adds geolocation information. The frontend is using React and Tailwind. Would love any feedback or suggestions on what to improve.

pypipe is a command-line tool for writing data pipelines in Python. When working with data processing in the terminal, I often find myself wanting to pass the output of commands to Python for further processing. In such cases, one can either write one-liners or create regular Python scripts and connect them through pipes. However, using pypipe makes this process more convenient and efficient.

I found hping3 and nmap's nping to be far too slow in terms of sending individual, bare-minimum (40-byte) TCP SYN packets; other than inefficient socket I/O, they were also attempting to do far too much unnecessary processing in what should have otherwise been a tight execution loop. Furthermore, none of them were able to handle CIDR notations (i.e., a range of IP addresses) as their source IP parameter. Hi HN! I've been working on Bor, an open-source system for centralized Linux desktop management. Bor consists of a lightweight Go agent and a central server. Policies are streamed to clients over mTLS/gRPC in real time—no polling—and currently support Firefox, Chrome, KDE, dconf, polkit and package management, with more coming. Hello! I'm learning Rust and also information security, so what better way to learn than to put a tool together practicing both skills?
