For the past 5 years or so I've been working on a ground-up redesign of Freenet, my peer-to-peer project from the early 2000s (now renamed Hyphanet). The new Freenet has been up and running since December along with some early applications like River[1], our decentralized group chat and Delta - a decentralized CMS. Users have already started to build their own apps on Freenet including games, and we have some interesting apps in development like Atlas, a search/recommendation engine. Architecturally, this new Freenet is a global, decentralized key-value store where keys are webassembly…

Over the past couple of months, I've been working on connet. At this point, it is working pretty smoothly (in what I use it for), so I wanted to share it with more people and see what they think. I know many other similar/reverse proxy solutions exist - like https://github.com/fatedier/frp, https://github.com/rapiz1/rathole, and a bunch more you can find at https://github.com/anderspitman/awesome-tunneling. However, I wanted to try and put my own little peer-to-peer twist on it. Thanks for checking it out, and sharing any…

I spent the last 1.5 years working out how to scale a decentralized network safely and efficiently to millions of users. URnetwork is a market for network capacity, where each connection races to find the best provider on the network. This means users have many IP addresses that continually cycle, and users can directly connect to each other, which is great for privacy when some minimum conditions are met. Because the world already has a bunch of hardware and network capacity that can be used, the challenges were to design a protocol to make it safe to use and participate, fast and reliable,…

Hey HN! I just released weron, a P2P VPN that uses WebRTC for transport which I've been working on for the last couple of months. It can create both layer 2/Ethernet and layer 3/IP overlay networks, and the underlying transport layer can be easily embedded to write your own P2P apps with Go. Compared to for example Tailscale, WireGuard and ZeroTier, its much harder to block on a network level and also significantly easier to set up, while not sacrifing much performance. I'd love to get your feedback :)

Chatter Net is a modern decentralized semantic web built atop self-sovereign identity. This is a very early prototype. Help, comments, criticisms are all needed to help the project move forward.
