Products that do what Analytics and Ad Blocker (Mv3 Ad Blocker) does
Hi All, I created my company: Globemallow.io. Browser extensions for reducing the carbon footprint of the internet. Globemallow calculates CO2 emitted and energy (kWh) usage on webpage load, and provides a personalized sustainable development report on how each page can become more efficient from a sustainable development perspective. An Internet Sustainability Grade is calculated for each webpage. While working on Globemallow, I realized that a significant portion of websites had larger load times due to an asinine amount of analytics (tracking) and advertising scripts executing on each…

We built a robotic plotter that creates ephemeral visualizations of website carbon footprints using water vapor on glass. It analyzes website energy data and translates it into misty patterns, making the invisible impact of digital infrastructure visible. Built during a residency at a cultural venue in Belgium. Code and build details here : https://gitlab.constantvzw.org/gijs/carbon-aware/-/tree/main....

After months of using Google Analytics I realized only about 50% of people accepted my cookie-popup. I had months of incorrect data for my website. I started looking for alternatives and eventually found Plausible, which is great (and open-source). Problem is, I didn't feel like paying 9$ a month to see the amount of visitors on a website i didn't even earn anything on, it was just a hobby project. Eventually I started making my own web analytics. Which actually isn't that hard. It took me about a month of working on my spare time every now and then. Being GDPR compliant basically means to…

Hi, we're Zerofy, and our goal is to build a fully automated, real-time, and holistic carbon emission tracking app for households! Our approach relies on tapping all digital data streams representing your life and calculating carbon emissions from them. In the linked post, we describe our approach, show a demo app, and are soliciting feedback! (Once we track emissions, we want to build AI tech that helps reduce. But that's for another post.)

Have you ever wondered about the carbon footprint of your API? This week, the 27th climate summit takes place in Egypt. This inspired us to draw attention to the emissions produced by our online behaviour. We introduced some CO2-related features to our API testing tool: - Calculate carbon emissions of an API call - Set up a check to validate that your API endpoint doesn't cross the limit when it comes to emissions - Test all your API endpoints and get an approximate calculation of your API emissions in total We hope that by using these features, you will become more aware of the carbon…

Hi guys! We’re Ajay & Jainit, and we’re super excited to launch GreenSwapp to the HN community! GreenSwapp is an API that tracks product and recipe-wise carbon footprints at scale, for food products. Tracking carbon footprints of individual food products is hard because you’d have to trace it all the way back to the farm and account for all the energy inputs till the point of sale. Each such analysis takes about 6 months to do, and in many cases, it is hard to even map this journey. For food products that typically have multiple ingredients (i.e. they are recipes), you have to do this for…

The standard AI energy debate compares server-side LLM inference to a server-side Google query. I think this misses most of what actually happens on a mobile device during a real search session. I built a parametric model of the full end-to-end mobile search session: 4G/5G radio energy, SoC rendering cost for a 2.5MB page, programmatic advertising RTB auctions running in the background, and network transmission costs for both sides. Then compared it to an equivalent LLM session. Main finding across 10,000 Monte Carlo draws: on mobile, a standard LLM session uses on average 5.4x less…

I spent last 6 months trying to build Simple Ops [1] to democratize website performance monitoring so anyone can use it. A year back, while I was trying to measure performance for Visa List as it became a huge content website with more than 100K pages. Also as data is changing very frequently, it's very hard to keep doing this manually. I searched on google and found that all the solutions are just uptime monitoring and nothing and none of them truly measure performance. So I decided to build one for myself. But it turns out website performance monitoring is not so simple after all and with…

TLDR: I made a public only web analytics without signup. Stores views and visitors for 10 days before deleting data. Exactly 25 days ago today I posted here, proud of my new web analytics. The response was mixed and my post even got flagged (understandable). It was my first real launch and I actually made a sale just a day later of 49$(!). Back then my project was pay once, keep forever. Since then I have sadly went over to the dark side (subscription based). Anyways, I never went back to look at the post after the first two hours, turns out I got a lot of answers. Most answers was something…

Hi HN, The two of us are working on our real time analytics service Worldlogger for two-an-a-half months now. Today we rolled out a new version. It still has some bugs here and there, but it works :) Worldlogger kind of does what Chartbeat and Getclicky are doing, but we try to mix the best from both worlds ;) Curious what you think about it! http://worldlogger.com/ Cheers E
