Hi HN, After 9 years of running my own OpenStreetMap tile server infra for MapHub (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11389989), I've open-sourced it and launched OpenFreeMap. You can either self-host or use our public instance. Everything is open-source, including the full production setup — there’s no 'open-core' model here. Check out the repo (https://github.com/hyperknot/openfreemap). The map data comes from OpenStreetMap. I also provide weekly full planet downloads both in Btrfs and MBTiles formats. I aim to cover the running costs of the public…

Yeah, there's AI, but I added it because I found it easier to find answers I'm looking for. For the data scientists, you can download the CSV and go crazy. Would love to know what discoveries or learnings can be found from it. To download the raw scraped data you need to become a paid member but you don't really need it unless you're wanting to finesse a table of data for a particular need. The cost is mostly just an incentive to help me pay the bills for running the website. The bunch of available CSV files contain large amounts of data which has everything from tags, genres, pricing,…

Ever since the DPReview closure announcement https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35248296 we were thinking how to preserve the 25 years of valuable DPReview camera data. Archive.org has been great, but it's not usable by the general public. The best way to keep it safe going forward, is to have the community own it, so we open sourced it: https://github.com/open-product-data/digital-cameras I'm aware of a number of attempts to make product data open-sourced, but none have the power of the photo geeks behind it :) Thoughts or ideas? + really looking for…

Exa Websets▲160Hey HN! I'm Will, founder of Exa (YC21 - https://exa.ai). Today we're opening up Websets, a search engine that finds massive lists of correct results given complex queries. Dataset Explorer is now LIVE and FREE. -- Finding the right dataset shouldn't be this hard. Millions of high-quality datasets exist across Kaggle, data.gov, and other platforms, but discovering the ones you actually need feels like searching for a needle in a haystack. Whether it's seasonality trends, weather patterns, holiday data, tech layoffs, currency rates, political content, or geo information – the perfect dataset is out there, but buried under poor search functionality. That's why we built the dataset-explorer – a completely free tool that lets you search for datasets using natural…

Hi HN! I am an undergrad student trying to build interesting things with AI. Recently, I was looking for a dataset I could use for a new project. I realized that it is really frustrating to go through all the government websites (with terrible UX) just to find some usable dataset. I set out to build a GitHub for datasets, named DataHub. Right now, we have more than 1000 datasets from Montréal and New York City, with more cities coming soon (and possible government agencies). All of this is wrapped into a powerful search. It's a breeze to find a dataset to work on. I'd be interested to know…
