Exa Websets
Hey HN! I'm Will, founder of Exa (YC21 - https://exa.ai). Today we're opening up Websets, a search engine that finds massive lists of correct results given complex queries. For example, you can search for: - “software engineers in the Bay Area, with experience in startups and big tech, who know Rust and have published technical content”: https://websets.exa.ai/cm7ax5bl8003276q689v0dde5 - “US based healthcare companies, with over 100 employees and a technical founder": https://websets.exa.ai/cm6lc0dlk004ilecmzej76qx2 - "research paper about ways to…

In plain words
Exa's Websets is a search engine that retrieves large, accurate result sets in response to complex queries with multiple criteria. Users can search for specific combinations of attributes—such as software engineers with particular skill sets in certain locations, or companies meeting detailed specifications—and receive comprehensive lists of matching results. The tool uses embeddings-based search technology and is designed for researchers, recruiters, and others needing to find niche populations or specialized information across the web.

Find perfect lists of leads, candidates or anything in the web. Websets’ semantic search lets you ask in plain English, it agentically sources results and enriches them with you ask for - like emails, tags, and more - all in the time it takes to brew a coffee.

Person search API2025 · crustdata.com · ▲790Hi HN! We’re Abhilash Chowdhary, Chris Pisarski and Manmohit Grewal. We built Crustdata (YC F24). Today we’re launching our web search API for AI agents, which not only returns the most relevant documents from the web but also maps them to the correct entity (person, company or event). Demo video here https://youtu.be/IouWW97hBN8 If you run agents at scale, tokens become a line item. The web data is the worst input: long pages, repeated content, mixed entities, stale claims. The usual web search -> scrape -> summarize + structure forces the agent to spend tokens doing…

Engineering.fyi – Search across tech engineering blogs in one place2025 · engineering.fyi · ▲470I built a search engine for engineering blogs because I was tired of manually checking individual company blogs to find real-world production examples. The problem: When learning a new technology, the best insights often come from how companies like Google, Meta, or Stripe actually implement it in production. But these gems are scattered across dozens of separate engineering blogs with no way to search across them. What I built: Engineering.fyi indexes engineering blogs from ~15 companies (Google, Meta, OpenAI, Anthropic, Stripe, Uber, etc.) and makes them searchable in one place. You can…
Hacker Search – A semantic search engine for Hacker News2024 · hackersearch.net · ▲233Hi HN! I'm Jonathan and I built Hacker Search (https://hackersearch.net), a semantic search engine for Hacker News. Type a keyword or a description of what you're interested in, and you'll get top links from HN surfaced to you along with brief summaries. Unlike HN's otherwise very valuable search feature, Hacker Search doesn't require you to get your keywords exactly right. That's achieved by leveraging OpenAI's latest embedding models alongside more traditional indexes extracted from the scraped and cleaned up contents of the links. I think there are many more interesting things…

Hi everyone, I built PyXL — a hardware processor that executes a custom assembly generated from Python programs, without using a traditional interpreter or virtual machine. It compiles Python -> CPython Bytecode -> Instruction set designed for direct hardware execution. I’m sharing an early benchmark: a GPIO test where PyXL achieves a 480ns round-trip toggle — compared to 14-25 micro seconds on a MicroPython Pyboard - even though PyXL runs at a lower clock (100MHz vs. 168MHz). The design is stack-based, fully pipelined, and preserves Python's dynamic typing without static type restrictions.…
