Products that do what Binocs – a personal search engine for all your cloud services does
Hey HN! The beta signup for Binocs just launched this morning at: https://www.getbinocs.com Have you ever had trouble finding one of your files—trying to remember the name or where you saved it? Binocs is your own personal search engine. Quickly search for your emails, files, and attachments across multiple cloud services and find results that Dropbox, Gmail and Drive normally miss. Head over to getbinocs.com to sign-up for an invite, and if you'd be willing to show us some love at Product Hunt, we just announced the beta there as well!…

Hi HN! This started late last year as an afternoon project to play around with ElasticSearch, and then I kept thinking of new features I wanted to add. I still have a lot of things I want to build, but now seemed like a good time to put it out there: even if the results aren’t nearly the quality I’d like, I’ve still found it useful and I want to show it off! I’ve been working on it since September 2021, but only in fits and starts. The entire thing runs on a computer in my living room (there’s a picture on the About page); I haven’t done any load testing so we’ll see how it holds up.

Hey all, Last time when we were on HackerNews [1], we received a lot of feedback, and we incorporated most of it. - We have changed our name from grep.help to usegrasp.com - A privacy policy page - Bulk import - Pricing page We are happy to introduce a new feature: a personalized answer search engine that provides direct citations to the content on the page. I've decided to bite the bullet and release Bitbox.co and get some feedback. I've been coding for years and one of the things I constantly see companies do is write and rewrite a document storage system, so I decided to write one for them. Bitbox.co uses cloud storage (currently Azure) to store documents but can be coded to use any cloud service. Documents can be public or private and URLs to that document can be used directly in HTML. There are currently a list of WebAPIs for developers to use as a tool, or build an entire system around. This is an MVP and it's simple. Upload a file, get a…

Hey fellow HN-ers, I'd like to ask HN about my latest startup: SocialFolders. We take a Dropbox-like approach to managing your content on your social networks by mirroring all the content you have on these networks in folders on your computer. Moving this content around, between folders or between services, is mirrored in the all-mighty "cloud" (ugh, I hate this word). We'd love to know what you think. We think our approach solves the problem of managing content at scale. We put together a quick 2'30 screencast to show HN how it works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4s2TFsVezZQ If you want…

I've built a thing! A few months back someone (not me) posted my Mac app Droplings to HN. It was incredibly rough around the edges back then, and in alpha. Well, it's finished now and sparkles like crazy. Please take a look! :)

Hi HN, I’m from the team at Nuon. While building in the Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC) space, we realized there wasn't a centralized, community-driven resource like awesome-selfhosted.net for managed software that lives in the customer's VPC. We hope software vendors will open a PR and add their BYOC offerings.

Hey folks, There has been some talk about search engines here so I thought maybe I'd share a new project I'm working on. Built it partly to help me sell my own projects. Still a lot of work to be done but would be happy to get feedback. Very early phase so don't trust your life with it. Cheers --- Edit: if anyone needs a free/no CC account just DM me on https://www.linkedin.com/in/crufter/

I got frustrated with Outlook, Gmail and Google drive search never being able to find anything in my Inbox or Cloud storage and decided to build a personal email and document search that works better. Selectric is a free MacOS app and currently supports Gmail, Outlook, Drive, Dropbox and Slack. The app is completely private. We index and store all data on your Mac. We also run AI models locally so no data ever needs to leave your computer. I'd love for the HN community to try us out and share feedback!

For the last month or so I've been working on bewCloud, and today I'm making its source code public and open! Right now, the Dashboard (URLs + freeform notes), News (RSS/Atom/JSON feeds), and Contacts (CardDav) are working. If you have any suggestions, comments, or recommendations, I'd love to hear it. Thank you for your attention and kindness. I really appreciate it!

Hi HN, I previously wore SWE/SRE hats on GCP. Later, I was on the other side, managing thousands of machines. The friction points of onboarding and operating cloud systems are personal problems to me. I’ve found it hard to keep track of all the random cloud resources floating around, especially as my team’s assets proliferated. Occasionally, there is a resource affecting an outage but no one remembers where it is. I am constantly frustrated by existing tooling. APIs can work, after you’ve navigated the byzantine documentation, but I often find myself doing ad-hoc tasks which are best…

So a while ago I was thinking it would be neat to build a site that had the most absolute utility. The idea I came up with was a site to store those little protips that are super useful, if you know them ahead of time. I hired a guy to work on it with me, and ClueDB was born: http://cluedb.com/ Please give it a whirl (it uses Twitter auth as login but doesn't tweet anything) and tell me what you think! (Various trivia: My first try at a project coded by someone else and "product managed" by me. Runs on Flask + MongoDB. Also, this is totally unrelated to my startup.)

Hi HN!, We're a group of High Schooler's who have made a website for an international cryptic hunt we have been organizing. Everything has been built from the ground up and has been open sourced. We'd love feedback on our work. And if it interests you, feel free to register and try a level or two! URL: https://halocrypt.com/ Source: https://github.com/halocrypt We're particularly proud of our frontend, since we have used a framework we built ourselves!

Hi HN, We are building a search engine to help founders, investors, and early adopters to easily discover startups from all over the world. Discovering startups - whether it is a potential competitor, to validate an idea or as part of a DD process - is a difficult and time-consuming process. We believe that many existing platforms require expensive subscriptions and general-purpose search engines often do not give a complete enough picture. To solve this problem, we are releasing a free-to-use search engine (with a relatively generous daily limit on search volume). No sign-up is required. We…

Hello folks, Generally, I never had problems locating, or quick accessing my files using "Everything". It’s fast and does the job well, no complains there. So… why build something else? Because I have some minor complains that have inspired me to work on my own custom replacement to it. And because I just want to make a great project to have on my resume . Here are some limitations I ran into: The app fails when I want to locate a file from another drive that I share between PCs and doesn't use the NTFS file format. Another thing it could do better is to feel a bit more system intergraded.…

Please give me some feedback on my weekend/evening project http://ycpages.info YCPages is a CrunchBase sort of service just for YC funded companies. Company/founder details are pulled from CrunchBase using their API. I have checked founders info by looking their LinkedIn pages/Twitter etc. So i am confident 95% information available on YCPages are accurate. Next Steps, == Adding the Tech Stack info == Rankings from Alexa, Compete, Quantcast, etc If I can get the founders answer few of my question about their experience I will add them as well. Any feedback would be highly appreciated.…

My friend and I left our jobs a month ago to get our side project, Cloud Cannon, ready for launch. Cloud Cannon makes it easy to get a simple website with a CMS online and launched. It does this by: 1. Syncing with Dropbox. You drag your files into Dropbox, Cloud Cannon then syncs them to our server and makes them live on the internet under the domain you've provided. 2. Integrated CMS. Have your clients update their own website using our simple CMS. Add a class of "editable" to any div you want your clients to edit. All changes your client's make will be pushed live and saved back to your…

I am an indie hacker and have been launching my products on Product Hunt. Like many of you here, my experience with PH sucked: Lots of bots. Hard to compete. There's also been many new launch platforms coming up, but all of them make you compete for upvotes. Ugh. So I have been working on something different: https://saascurate.com/ It's a community-driven platform where indie hackers and SaaS founders help each other grow their products. The idea is simple - list your product, engage with other founders, gain exposure and social proof. No upvote system. It's hard and…
